Episode 5 time!

T'Lyn narrating? This should be good...

Angel One mention!

Ransom burned - ow.

Hunting Betazoids? Cool casual world-building there!

Might have thought it would be Taylor's people who did the hunting?

"Time to get to surgery!"

Does Cerritos have a named bar manager?

Nice Vulcan backdrop in T'lynn quarters.

Brad remembers (nearly) ALL the crew members names?!

Memmle Mo swearing? Something is definitely off!

Nice that the Captain is trying to keep control.

How is there an area on the Cerritos Brad had never seen?

Slam Poetry! Worf Slam Poetry at that - still no Alexander mention though.

"Hot Mom!"

Drop the cover!

Raises some interesting questions about how loose the Federation integration is if Betazoid has its own intelligence service in 2381.

You think someone would have pinged security! Can Carol not reach her badge or something?

T'Lyn is the source - wow did not see that coming.

T'Lyn is 62!

That party got wild fast.

Gald Carol was able to divide Dolorex, Katrot, and Cathiw with their own emotional issues!

Nice that T'Lyn and Beckett have bonded and T'Lyn spoke her secrets.

Beckett is good at reading people and gave exactly the right pep talk.

Such an efficient security team - fantastic to see them kicking butt!

Nice there is warning beacons on the zone border.

Sneaky Romulan ship inside the zone. How do they get away with it?

Nice it all worked out in the end and the crew now have a lead on the mystery ship - does Starfleet have that info one wonders?

Like that T'Lyn is going to stay for longer.

You are trying too hard Tendi.

Fun episode - enjoyed that a lot.

LGBTQ people aren’t issues, they’re people who exist and are a normal part of society whether certain people like it or not. Two men kissing is no more inappropriate than a man and woman kissing. The only difference is that one has a stigma associated with it because of centuries of bigotry that is now thankfully dying out, although not nearly fast enough.

Also 10 year olds know gay people exist and we’re better off as a society if they see it as a normal thing since some of those 10 year olds are gay. Hopefully they won’t have to live in a world where hateful people treat them as abnormal and something that should be hidden.

Funny how the LGBTQ+ community can be such sore winners, to the point where you have to wear their banner, or you are otherwise seen as a hater.

Anyway, this episode was okay. While we had a nice character study for T'Lyn, though it was not clear how her illness was the same as Sarek's. I'll just assume that by the time LD came about, the illness is easily manageable.

Solid 8.

Okay, cut this crap right now or it will be a warning. We're not going to have these kind of inane, homophobic talking points here.

@Everyone, as was said earlier, let's stick to discussing the episode now.

You are missing the point. I was not talking about the morality of LGBT. I was merely telling Destructor what was in the episode so that they can make an informed decision about watching the episode with their 10 year old.

I was not aware kissing being problematic is part of anyone's 'values'. Gay kissing is the same as straight kissing. Especially if none of them has a beard, and it's animation. There have been kisses in previous episodes and I don't remember them ever being mentioned as inappropriate for any age. "Hiding" kisses is a particularly odd choice of words.

You are completely misunderstanding my post. I said that not mentioning the gay kiss is hiding information from Destructor that they have a right to know about. I was talking about hiding information from Destructor, not hiding the gay kiss.

We should simply ask @Destructor what their 'values' are, and to better define what they find appropriate or not.

Correct. I don't know Destructor's values. That is precisely why I mentioned the gay kiss so that Destructor could make an informed decision about whether to watch the episode with their 10 year old or not. I believe parents should make those decisions for their family.

Tendi seems aggressively asexual to me, TBH. Maybe not aromantic, but asexual for sure.
Given it was mentioned just last episode that she used to frequent certain establishments on Orion, that seems rather unlikely.

My guess is she's overcompensating on not getting into sexual relationships now that she's a part of Starfleet because oversexualization is one of the biggest sterotypes Orion's are known for. Kind of like how she immediately jumps away from any of the "pirate" portions.

I think it’s obvious to everyone but yourself.

The 3 betazoids were great.

I especially loved the scene with the Romulans in the TNZ. Very TNG.

Nice reference to Bendii syndrome.

T'lyn was great as always. Nice character development for her.

The stuff with engineering was ok.

Overall, another fun episode. I like that there were a plot and it did not rely too much on just memberberries.

8/10

Or she just doesn't want a romance right now. Not everything revolves around sex or sexuality.

Tendi has always been overly friendly since the first season.. She near went ape crap when an e heard someone might Not like her..
The T'lyn syndrome just amped up her Need to be loved by everybody.

God can't 4 people just be great friends without sex entering the equation? Sheesh

As for the episode I liked it, nice T'lyn centred one

I'm curious to know whether the episodes this season are somehow aired out of order, because the scene in the end with T’Lyn reluctantly allowing Mariner to embrace her makes the episode seem like it actually was meant to air before last week’s episode, where she already let Tendi hug her and Mariner without seemingly giving it a second thought. She also mentions in this episode that she would remain on the Cerritos to study the crew, then in last week’s episode she studied Tendi and the Orion homeworld. I dunno, just feels to me like they were meant to air the other way around.

Given the cause of the problems this week perhaps her concern had more to do what impact that would have on Mariner?

Yes, they can. Yes, that should be far more on the show than the questions of "Well, what is her/his sexual attraction."

Given it was mentioned just last episode that she used to frequent certain establishments on Orion, that seems rather unlikely.

I got the idea she did that because it was expected of an Orion woman of her standing more than anything. It was just another thing she was acting at until she joined Starfleet. Now she's free to be the "real her" - which doesn't really include much interest in people sexually.

God can't 4 people just be great friends without sex entering the equation? Sheesh

They don't need to be attracted to one another, but good friends do tend to talk about sex with one another.
  • Mariner has been consistently horny across the entire show.
  • Boimler was initially shown as being a horny geek in Season 1, but they completely undercut this by Season 3, with his showing no interest in hot women throwing themselves at him, and having his "fantasies come to life" be completely non-sexual.
  • Rutherford has been interested in dating Barnes, though that kinda went nowhere, and he's been increasingly portrayed as more child-like here.
  • Tendi has been shown to have zero interest in anyone sexually (though she might be interested in Rutherford romantically).
I'd actually contrast this with the "upper deckers." Shaxs and T'Ana are an item. Ransom is a horndog. Billups has been shown to be a virgin, but has sexual desires. Freeman is married, and as this episode shows, is a sexual being.

The show has plenty of sex, it's just that the main characters (other than Mariner) don't seem that interested in it.
