I don't quite see why. There were many scenes dealing with the murder, including reactions from Stamets and Burnham, reactions from the crew at large, some discussion on the ethics and consequences, and then a scene showing the murderer moving outside the reach of the set of heroes for good.
If anything, this seems excessive in comparison with how little coverage Starfleet values got, in a show devoting an entire season to creative perversions of those.
