Russell T. Davies Returns to Doctor Who as New Showrunner

If this is indeed the last season, I just realized a rather eerie parallel. We've just had Pope Francis die after the second episode of the season aired. Back in 2005, Pope John Paul II died the same day the second episode of the first season aired.
Careful. Draw attentions to parallels like that and RTD will start having conclaves for Doctor castings and we will be waiting for smoke.

In the event anyone around here cares about such things, the first season (as in last year's season) has just been announced to be getting a physical media release in North America on June 24.

RTD doesn’t sound that confident about a third series stating the doctor has reached a point of a possible hiatus and leaving it to a new generation to reinvent it
That's the height of hubris. Just because people aren't watching this version of DW, doesn't mean people won't come back if it "returns to form"
Sorry, but Ncuti is Ncitty as the Doctor. He may be a good actor, but between RTDs writing of him and his "acting", it drove people away.

To fans who watched RTD's original run as it went out biweekly: was it always like this? Every week some angry fans complaining that "X actor is X actor but not Doctor Who"?

It started before a single episode aired when people saw what Eccleston was wearing. Which is especially ironic since those same people now venerate him as a "real" Doctor.

Yuuup. Fandom lost their shit that he was in plain clothes and a leather jacket. They went in prehating. And while some came out still hating, most became big fans of his and were disappointed he left after one series.

"The Doctor does not wear a leather jacket! He is not a vampire like Angel or Spike!" -An actual letter sent into DWM

Colin Baker once said that he was wanted a black leather jack for this his Doctor instead the multi-coloured abomination.

I wonder in 1980s fandom would have reacted the same way?

Or would they have seen it least as the least of the 6th Doctor's failings?
