Pike Character Teaser

It might be that, but it would be a heavy lift for the Talosians to accomplish.

Like everything else they do on the Enterprise, light-years away from their planet. If they can put a fake Admiral there (who was on a two-person shuttle before if I remember correctly) - they can put the fear an unrealistic death sentence paragraph in people's minds.:techman:

Fantasy is still a genre with specific tropes and plot devices though!

I mean, Doctor Who is WAY more spacious in its timey-wimey, sonic screwdriver "biggest on the inside" techno-magic. It's still a science fiction show.

Star Wars OTOH is far more realistic. What makes that "fantasy" though are the Wizard, Knight & princesses and straight up magic storytelling devices. None of which are in Star Trek.

Star Trek is more fantasy now.

"Now" has been going on for quite a while, given we had a series more than 20 years ago built around a main character whose very birth was orchestrated by prophets, whose coming and actions were foretold in legend, and who finished his journey by battling a wraith-infested villain who could summon more wraiths with a book.

DS9 would like a word.

The prophets - the one thing universally loved about DS9! :guffaw:

But agree - though that is definitely trying much more to be religious/mythologically storytelling. It's not classic "fantasy". But a story about "knowing your fate" would fit into Sisko's story.

DS9 is the clear outlier here though, and for good reasons. And personally I hope for y Trek to avoid that stuff in the future. In BSG it worked. In the Trek universe... not. That's why it's only in one show out of many, and it's not the one mainstream audiences think of when they hear "Star Trek".

Beside the point. Since "fantasy" means something far more expansive than a particular storytelling genre with specific cliches, the statement is accurate.

"This other fantasy is more fantastic than Trek" doesn't make Trek science fiction rather than fantasy, either.

You keep talking as if the narrow definition of fantasy that you favor is "classic fantasy." No. It's just a very limited part of it.

Chapel teaser pt 2? The shape on the wall looks very similar, just flipped vertically.

Well, the room itself is apparently a cargo bay. The containers in the back have the icons and signage from the TMP cargo bay. Which is driving me a little nuts, because the reason for that big capsule-shaped icon divided into quadrants is to show where each container went in its capsule-shaped slot in TMP. Why are they there with these pentagon-shaped crates? I'm honestly a little baffled, now that you've pointed out the "chapel" backing is taken straight from "Balance of Terror," that they'd do their homework to such a degree to get a really obscure piece of set-dressing, but apparently just grabbed "movie-era cargo crate icon" out of some database of Star Trek signage without actually looking at the TMP cargo crate in context.

Plus, that location symbol is exactly the same on all the crates.

why would you have a wedding in a cargo bay? The lounge we saw in previous teasers would make for a better location, or even the shuttle bay
