Dawnn Lewis being nominated for this is well-deserved, of course. Although I have to say that I think Tawny Newsome definitely would have deserved a nomination as well, if not more. Such a powerful, energetic and recognizable voice performance. She totally made Mariner her own and helped create one of Trek’s most memorable characters, being able to flawlessly go from a hundred frenetic jokes per lightyear to emotional heartbreak and back again. In my mind Mariner is already as iconic as some of Trek’s most iconic characters. They couldn’t possibly have cast someone better suited for the role.
