Spoilers Paris Rank Question

After finding out about Tuvix nobody on Voyager will ever get a promotion or a important posting. Except Janeway which they had to do for publicity sakes but they don't let her in on the important missions. Seven even stopped being friends with the crew and left after finally learning the truth of Tuvix.

Except the Doctor, because he wouldn't go along with it.

If anything, the fact Tom Paris is still in Starfleet and a full Lieutenant remarkable. After all, he previously left Starfleet, joined a terrorist group, got arrested and convicted, only to end up reactivated during his work release from prison on account being stranded on the ass end of the galaxy. Eventually, he ended up demoted for disobeying orders, though got re-promoted a year later. Really, Starfleet was under no obligation to even keep him once Voyager arrived home.

The benefits of being an Admiral's son, clearly.

Honestly, after all that, I'm surprised he wanted to stay on.

I suspect now that he's something of a Starfleet celebrity with friends and family among the flag ranks, he can essentially choose his own assignments, making Starfleet seem a lot more appealing. He's basically just doing publicity tours around Starfleet, meeting starship crews, getting his picture taken at their helms, signing plates...

He's a criminal traitor to starfleet and the federation.

Dudes rank is so imaginary, that they couldn't be bothered to make him a marquis provisional rank badge.
He should've had that provisional badge because of his backstory; he could've been that character who blended in with both sides of the crew. It would've been interesting to see how the Maquis saw him and in contrast how starfleet did. He might be in a situation where the Maquis don't like him and where the VOY crew didn't trust him.

VOY is something of a fascinating case of people who wanted very different things:

1. Some wanted to do a lengthy shake up of the established status quo of Star Trek with no backup, supplies, or established races. His name rhymes with Don Door.

2. Some were burned out TNG writers who essentially wrote like clockwork and were annoyed they couldn't use their established toys (and often used them anyway).

3. UPN just wanted The Next Generation and were annoyed at the fact it was so off.

He didn't mention Torres so they might have gotten divorced. He needed something to do to keep his mind off it. She left him for his best friend Harry. Together they are raising his daughter aboard a ship in which Harry has just been promoted to first officer. A Captain promotion soon in his future. Every night he returns home from a busy day piloting a starship to his lonely quarters and just turns on his tv and drinks some beer and wonders what the Hell happened to himself. How did it all get here. Maybe he drunkly stumbles to the ships holodeck for some holo sex with a hologram of Torres but after the Leah Brahms incident you can no longer recreate real people for those reasons so he instead creates a human/Klingon hybrid fake character to have sex with where he pretends in his mind it is Torres until eventually the alcohol kicks in making him pass out only to be waken the next day by a couple of crewmen coming in for their daily morning task of cleaning the holodeck. He then walks home takes a sonic shower and shaves and puts his uniform on and goes to the bridge for another day of piloting. Another day of nothing much happening in his life that is good or healthy or rewarding.

Promotions don't work that way. Indeed, starting with Lieutenant Commander, there's a minimum amount of time an officer is required to spend in each rank before they're eligible for promotion, at least in the real world.

Janeway jumping to Three Star Admiral had more to do with the fact that costuming or props had an abundance of the three-boxed pips. You'll note a lot of the Admirals we see in the 24th century are Three Star Vice Admirals, even ones who are identified in dialogue as Fleet Admirals, and one in particular who is specified in the script to be the head of Starfleet.
She wasn't 3 star, she had just been eating corn before the meeting

Tom may have taken a few years leave from Starfleet to focus on helping raise Miral? Thus he's not had much time to earn a promotion to Lt. Commander.

That would explain his high degree of hostility, as expressed when he gets to pound the #@*$! out of a random hapless ensign.

Harry's status as a first officer is entirely conceivable. He was doing LT level work for seven years after all, regardless of his pip count. And if he got a captain like James Kirk or Will Riker, both of whom scored with alien babes right and left, the reprimand on his record would be laughed off.

However, remember that in "Prophecy", Harry had a chance at Klingon nookie already, and he passed it up. Not his thing, I guess.

Also, remember that this is Tom Paris, creator of Fair Haven, Captain Proton, and Sandrine's. If he wanted to create a perfect replica of B'Elanna, I don't think any rules would stop him. Might even put together a 3-way with Seven. While the real B'Elanna is on Quo'nos, changing diapers and eating gagh.

You OK, mate?

Yep I feel okay. Much better than Paris did when he got his promotion we saw. Torres hadn't left him yet and he rushed home to his quarters to tell her the good news. Only to see B'Ellana sobbing as Harry comforted her. " What is go in on" he exclaimed. She then layed into him. Seems Harry told her about one night back on Voyager after some Captain Proton role-playing and how he hooked up with one of the Delaney sisters. Paris all angry tried to fight Kim and was all like "How can you do this to me. You are my best friend" and "It only happened once" but Torres basically just kicked his ass before he even landed one punch. She tossed his butt out in the corridor along with his new pip. Told him she is going to get a lawyer and he will never see his daughter again. As the door closed he just sit their crying and rocking. His happy life in ruin.

Why? Janeway is the one that killed him single-handedly. No one else was involved.

I believe that even in the US you have no-fault States where the divorce can't be blamed on one spouse for alleged misconduct (unless the police have to intervene in which case it becomes a violation of the law),. IE In my country a person can't deprive their spouse of their right to parenthood based on the spouse allegedly cheating on them. That would be considered completely separate issues, as it should be, IMO.

You just seem a little invested in this.

No personal situation that's similar ongoing?

It doesn't seem too healthy a topic to be dwelling on, either way.

Not actively, but they didn't oppose her actions, due perhaps to the Janeway the Cult Leader phenomenon. If she offered them all grape koolaid, they'd happily guzzle it en masse.

True, but B'Elanna could generate a fait accompli by heading off to Quo'nos, or some other world where Federation law wouldn't apply.

It's not much worse than the ever popular "Harry Kim's Starfleet career was trashed after 7 years as an ensign" trope.

They could be considered accomplishes for not trying to stop it. Except the Doctor. They would have been in the right if they arrest her.

No I am just having a bit of fun with the Paris character. Who sadly isn't having fun after assaulting Boimler. Seems that even though it's not much of a big deal he still broke one of the requirements he had to achieve for him to maintain his parole he received in the Voyager pilot. Paris now back in the New Zealand prison has come to a sad full cycle. He tried to get Admiral Paris his dad to pull strings but he wouldn't. Paris now found himself all alone just about in the world until one day a new inmate arrived in Nick Lacarno. They hit it off quickly and became friends. Even lovers in time. They decided that when they get out in 5 years they would try and go find a nice quiet place and settle down.
