One of the best episodes of the entire show

I believe season 7, though I am the one person on this board who would most likely be wrong at guessing which season an ep is in.

What worked for me in "Lower Decks" was the telling of the story from the point of view of the young officers, especially the part where Lavelle comments about how Riker "probably sleeps in the uniform" :guffaw:

There was speculation that Sito didn't actually die at the end, since we didn't actually see the "accident", leaving the door open for a DS9 appearance. Nothing obviously came of it anyway.

Funny, I was just thinking about this episode. It was so poignant and really showed that Star Trek really could handle secondary characters, a precursor to Deep Space Nine's gigantic ensemble.

On the side, yes, Rascals isn't the best episode, but how many episodes would you ever see starring Keiko AND Ro Laren?

Probably not in my top 30, but a good episode nevertheless!

I love this episode. It's in my top 5 TNG eps. Might even be in my top 5 Trek eps overall. I love everything about it, except the inclusion of Ogowa in the the lower decks' group of friends. I dunno why, but for me, her inclusion just doesn't work - maybe because she seems older than the others, or becuase we have seen her before and she's a "semi regular". Other than that, perfect episode.

I like how their buddy who works in Ten-Forward steers Lavelle wrong when it comes to Riker's background, erroneously telling him Riker's Canadian, when he's American from Alaska. Hope that teaches Lavelle to use the ships's computer to double-check an officer's background.

Always wondered if that was some kind of backhanded homage to William Shatner. There should have been a Canadian character on ST at some point. Maybe Dr. Crusher, with her Scottish roots, has some ties to Canada, too, as some Canadians trace their ancestry to Scotland.

Red Ranger

^ I never made the connection between Shat and Canada in the episode. Interesting idea! I love the scene where Lavelle goes up to Riker in 10 Forward. I love how embarrassed they both are!

Definitely a good episode...and another one featuring characters I wish they'd followed up on. I'd love to have seen more of Taurik in particular.

Lower Decks is in my top ten, for sure...I can't decide whether or not it goes ahead of The Drumhead....

I thought it was a great episode and that the idea could have been revisited in other contexts. After a while, it gets tiring to see the primary actors in main focus all the time. "Lower Decks" was a nice break that should have repeated a few times. :)

Definitely one of my favorite episodes. The only thing I don't like about it is that they didn't follow through with it w/a DS9 episode. I know some people think it is a better episode because Sito died, but I still wish she would have been brought back.

And this I agree with (sorry) They should have done an episode like this in TOS - but I suppose the 'Big three' contracts wouldn't have allowed it.

I think Sito is one of the best "one-shot" characters ever. Her death was devastating and a truly powerful moment rather than a cheap shock tactic like some other Star Trek deaths (*cough*Nemesis*cough*). I think this episode, "Attached", and "All Good Things..." are like the great trilogy of season 7 that pretty much saved it from itself and redeemed it after a mostly weak line-up of episodes. I love how original the premise of the episode was and the way every single one of the new characters was also original, interesting, and each in their own unique way easy for the audience to identify with and/or feel affection for.

I was shocked by how fresh and effective it was in its giving us a new perspective on the crew and showing how others could be intimidated by them. After 7 seasons of making us viewers feel like they're our family or friends, those behind the show reminded us very dramatically of the fact that these people are in positions of authority and we were actually very spoiled being allowed to be "flies on the wall" during their important/confidential meetings.

I also like Lower Decks especially - but I wouldn't say that season 7 suffers from a lineup of weak episodes.

I particularly enjoyed Gambit, The Pegasus, Parallels, Preemptive Strike... well, I definitely prefer season 7 to season 6 overall.

I liked it as well,
I was caught off guard by Sito dying did not expect that from T.N.G.
DS9 Yes I would have expected that.
