Nah, I don't have any emotions when I hear of a new Trek show. I'm kinda over it. The Original Series was and always will be my all time favorite TV show. I'll always enjoy it and watch it. Same with the films.
Funny thing is, it was never more than that to me: my favorite TV show. It wasn't a source of hope for the future, a representation of my group, or a shining beacon of equality. To me, IDIC was a marketing ploy that fans co-opted. The show had value, it was crafted, for the most part, with care and maturity. But it was a fun show that was the perfect mix of adventure, acting and music. As Nimoy often said "lighting in a bottle."
I was apeshit over it, don't get me wrong, and still am. But every series that followed, from TNG on, were simply follow ups, imitations and efforts that didn't reach the same heights for me. They were often very good, sometimes great, but mostly okay to dull. The last ST series I was truly excited to see was TNG - which has aged probably worse than all of them.
So, no, without the original cast and the original format, I don't get excited anymore. I may try them, depending on the premise, but mostly I really don't care either way if Star Trek continues on or finally retires. I don't resent them or deny anyone their right to love any ST series, but I'm not one of those fans who loves or looks forward to a Star Trek show simply because it's a Star Trek Show. I will stick with it if I enjoy it, but I have my own ideas as to what makes a good Star Trek series, and if it doesn't match that internal standard, I move on. Sometimes I'll get cranky at them based on how they interpret TOS for their own needs, but then I work to snap out of it and get a life, as Mr. Shatner once lampooned.
