NFL Offseason 2011 - The Longest Yard?

Randy Moss has retired.

Wow. I thought he'd go one more season, but I guess there just wasn't enough interest in him from any teams. So long, Randy. It's been...interesting, to say the least.

His rookie year, I drafted him in the 10th round of our fantasy league.

I'm still living off the winnings.

Thanks Randy. It's been fun.

Moss is the kind of player who doesn't want to be anything less than the #1 wideout on his team's offense, and while his speed is still mostly there, the fact is that even though he kind of shit the bed in Tennessee and Minnesota last year, his time in New England has ensured that even at age 40, to say nothing of 34, he'd be dealing with double- or triple-teams on every passing down, and he doesn't have the feet to beat that kind of coverage anymore (especially not without Brady throwing to him). He was little more than a decoy during his last season in New England, just because he had been completely shut down by nearly every defense in the league.

Yeah, he's always been eccentric (to say the least), but he's getting out of a particularly brutal sport with his health intact and plenty of time and money to do whatever he wants, so good for him.

Although I imagine that upon hearing the news, Joe Buck went to the nearest mirror, preened himself and barked, "That's a DISGUSTING retirement by Randy Moss."

Jerry Angelo has said that the Bears are set with their offensive line crew and will bring in no other personnel.

I have torches if anyone else wants to assist in burning Halas Hall to the ground.

I will eat a football if they finish over .500.

They might have to forfeit the season when they lose three quarterbacks to spinal injuries in the first quarter of a preseason game.

Every time I get depressed about the Bears' seemingly random player moves, something comes along to remind me that it could be worse: At least my team's big pre-season battle doesn't consist of John Beck vs. Rex Grossman.

I hate Jerry Angelo so fucking much. Angelo makes a play for Willie Colon, loses out (because -- huge surprise -- Colon wants to stay with the team that has a better shot at the Super Bowl), and then apparently has no Plan B for fixing the o-line. Except for fucking up what should have been an easy re-signing of Kreutz.

I can't get mad about the Marion Barber signing. If anything, it means they're a step closer to cutting Chester Taylor, which they need to do. If the RB depth chart next year went Forte - Barber - Robert Hughes/Harvey Unga, that'd be OK by me. Same thing with the Gholston/Okoye signings. Doesn't cost them much to kick the tires, then cut them if (read: when) they suck.

But then he dumps Olsen for peanuts because Martz pissed and moaned that Olsen wanted more plays as a receiver instead of a blocker, fails to get a real #1 wide receiver when there were like five of them on the market (and the one guy he does sign hasn't played a sixteen-game season since 2006, has about 1,200 receiving yards over the last three seasons, and had a blowup with Rod Marinelli so bad that even though neither man has been in Detroit for quite some time, they still aren't on speaking terms), doesn't do anything to fix the O-line, and then somehow makes the O-line even worse by lowballing the undisputed leader of the team for a decade and signing Chris Spencer, a guy so terrible that Seattle said, "Fuck it, dude, get the fuck out of here."

And now Olin Kreutz has signed with the Saints ... who happen to meet up with the Bears in Week 2. Kreutz knows the Bears' defensive alignments and adjustments in his sleep. That will end well.

Man, fuck you, Angelo. There's utter fucking incompetence, and then there's Matt Millen. You're heading towards the latter pretty goddamn quickly, you sack of shit.

Texans win the Super Bowl this year!!

And for my next act, I shall demonstrate affordable fusion power for your personal household.

The Texans are your sure fire pick to go 8-8 ever year. They are this decade's version of the Cards and Panthers.

Picked up Pats-Chiefs tickets for a Monday Night Football game in late November. I've got assbleed seats, but the MNF atmosphere is awesome. (Went to 45-3 vs. the God Damned Jets last year, and the place was rocking, and sadly I lso went to that playoff fuckfest too)

And in other news, Denver looks like it may have to cut its starting center after he commited one of the bigger screw ups in recent Broncos history (which is really saying something after the last two years. Too bad too.... I really thought the kid had great potential.
