And then L'Rell throws in a cannibalism joke.
It isn't cannibalism, jeeze.
Cannibalism is the act of eating something of the same species. Klingons and Humans are not the same species.
And then L'Rell throws in a cannibalism joke.
Quite right. Just as a human eating an octopus (or vice versa) isn't cannibalism. It's simple predation, nothing more.It isn't cannibalism, jeeze.

Then learn to use the word right![]()
I hope everyone is as concerned with the large lapses in the show's writing and logic as they are the imprecise use of "cannibalism."
In all seriousness, is there a shorthand term to describe a sentient species eating another sentient species that is more apt?
What I want to know is if Georgiou is going to chase saru around the ship on a pair of acme rocket skates whilst holding a knife and fork and wearing a bib like Wile E. Coyote.
It's just called eating.
Season 2 .... "hope, optimism, peace".
Sometimes the language we have must suffice. "Cannibalism," here, is much more descriptive, if admittedly not quite right. The readers can choose whether their level of pedantry will allow them to take my (easily understood, I think) meaning.
Go read a dictionary.It's cannibalism.

Dozens of episodes from TOS, TNG, DS9, even 'The Orville' have explored the question of Science vs Faith. Would DISCO just reinvent the old wheel now??
The show uses modern day terminology so the audience can understand.Words tend to change their meaning through the ages. Thus, in the fantasy world of the future, where Humans live side by side with bipedal humanoid sentient aliens, the term "cannibalism" is quite applicable to eating of Kelpiens, Vulcans, Romulans, etc. Come on, you can have a baby with a Romulan or Klingon*. So, if you eat them, you're one hundred percent cannibal.
Science Vs. Faith will never lose it's relevance. It's a vitally important discussion to have particularly today where we continue to see creationism pushed in schools and people believing in nonsense like the flat earth theory.
Personally i want an episode next season where the crew visits a planet with a species in crisis due to their young all dying from ingesting laundry detergent as part of an inane ritual called 'the tide pod challenge'
Respectfully, it's a bit of a leap to group people who have some form of faith in with people who believe the world is flat.
