I hope they don't kill one of those two off.

And who the hell picked the name NCIS: Legends for the spinoff? Sounds like a video game.

NCIS: Legend sounds like a show that would have Gibbs, Ducky, Vance and Franks as a team. Not Chris O'Donnell and LL Cool J.

Is the main character named Legend?

It seems this show is more popular with women, at least on this board. That's probably the difference between procedural and character driven plots.

Well, make a show where the female leads are competent, keep the action scenes and explosions to a minimum, and surround said competent women with an assortment of studly guys. Can't say I'm suprised. :)

I also get the feeling that the shows aimed at an older audience. What with the shows hero being over fifty, clueless about tech, and the general old-fashioned attitude toward patriotism and the military.

I don't know on every show these days the woman warrior is competent. In fact she is just below Xena in competence. While Tony and McGee are just agents its a toss up who you want with you in a fight Gibbs the Marine Scout Sniper and mentor. Kate, the ex Secret Service Agent who can't miss. Or Zeva, the assassin on loan/leave from her specialty, killing people. Even Abby was the most competent fighter when she had to fight, even if it was offscreen.

Well, I don't recall seeing Ducky kick anyones ass yet. :)

So that's why I like this show!
:lol::lol: Me too. Weird.

Well, to be fair, the reason I started watching was because of being sickeningly in love with Mark Harmon. It's definitely more than just that now though.

I know that's why I like it.

Actually, that is only part of it though. Just as important as all the above is the fact that this is a show with a sense of humor. Most of the procedurals take themselves WAY too seriously. NCIS can laugh at itself - and has the actors who can pull off the humor fabulously. IMO, both Mark Harmon and Michael Weatherly have exceptionally good comic timing. And Harmon does it without cracking a single smile.

Totally class act, this show. :techman:

BTW, did I miss the voting thread this week? I was all set to post but couldn't find it.

Good point about the humor. So maybe its the studs that bring the ladies in, and the humor that keeps them coming back? :)

With a few exceptions, I can't really follow a show unless theres a healthy dose of humor to go with the drama. NCIS, Firefly, Burn Notice, House...

Coming at it from the male perspective, there's plenty female hotness in the show to to hook us guys in.

That aside, I prefer a healthy amount of humour in the shows i watch (Buffy without the humour would have been intolerable) much like the previous poster said.

And the show and it's characters are affable, likeable and you end up rooting for all of them. And that's what seperates a show you love from the ones you merely "like".

Still not sure how Gibbs is getting boats out or if he even is but...

Hopefully some announcement about season 6 on dvd will come soon. I need to see the conclusion to the season 5 cliffhanger!

Well for me, the humor is what sets this show apart from all of the other cop show procedurals. There has be be something else to the show besides just solving the crime, otherwise for me it gets really boring, really quick. The characters have to be made 3-dimensional in some way. With NCIS, they do that with humor and through showing bits and pieces of certain characters personal lives (mostly Gibbs, but they've done it with Tony and McGee too). With my other favorite cop show procedural, Cold Case, they do it through cases that tug on heartstrings in a major way and cool period sets and music. And there, too, they root around in a couple of the characters personal lives just a bit.

For me, the CSIs are nearly intolerable - the same characters, week after week, looking through microscopes, doing ballistics work, and dropping numbers on crime scenes. *yawn* And we hardly ever get a look into their lives. Most of them are like stick figures.

I like CSI-Miami because I like the characters the best, and the scenery is by far the best of the CSIs. And they have done more rooting around in the main characters lives than the other CSIs, making them feel less like crime-solving robots and more like people. But even that show (which is really the only CSI I like at all) can get stale and boring if I watch more than an episode or two at a time.

Whereas with NCIS and Cold Case, I could watch either of those all day. Mainly because both make me FEEL something.

And cynical dreamer...I don't think the intention is for Gibbs to get any of his boats out of the basement. That's exactly the sort of thing that makes the show interesting. Because it really makes you wonder about him. I mean, what kind of person builds 3 or 4 boats in their basement when there is no way to get any of them out of there? THIS is the kind of thing I'm talking about, that makes Gibbs into an interesting character.

I think it's interesting that given the responses in this thread, there isn't ONE character that stands out as the universal favorite. On alot of shows, there are usually a couple of characters that seem to get more attention than the rest and really stand out. But on this show, everyone has fun and interesting characteristics.

I think that my favorites are Gibbs, Tony and Abby. Although really, I quite like them all because everyone gets their moment on that show.

For example, I really love the way Ducky talks to his 'patients'. I think that really humanizes what on alot of shows is rather a cold science. And I also love his stories that start with 'This reminds me of the time...'

It's really hard not to like a character like that!
Wasn't it recenently revealed, I think a couple weeks back on why Ducky does that?
That the body he is doing the autopsy on is telling him their life story and he feels the need to reciprocate?

NCIS: Legend sounds like a show that would have Gibbs, Ducky, Vance and Franks as a team. Not Chris O'Donnell and LL Cool J.

I would be thinking that it would somehow revolve around Gibb's "boss",....Mike Franks. ;)

PKTrekGirl, I'll propose a CBS super sweeps super crossover just for you...

A COLD CASE has been reopened that takes the team to Florida where they're aided by a CSI: MIAMI guy who keeps taking off and putting on his sunglasses while delivering really bad one-liners.

But it turns out the victim is a petty officer so NCIS takes over the case. It turns out the suspect they're after is also wanted by the CBI so they reluctantly take on THE MENTALIST to help them find their man. It turns out he may be on the run with his girlfriend who has been reported as missing, so the missing persons unit from WITHOUT A TRACE helps track them down.

When they finally catch up to their guy, he's already been murdered. Must've had an accomplice. They're stumped now, so the profilers of CRIMINAL MINDS are brought in to help, and the trail leads them to the Big Apple where the CSI: NY guys may have a lead based on a related case.

The trail leads back to Las Vegas where they're aided by the local CSI. After a FLASHPOINT hostage situation is revealed to have ties to the case, the trail of dead bodies leads one character from each of the mentioned shows to California where, with the help of the local feds and a math genius good at crunching NUMBERS, they finally get their guy!

Yeah. The only problem is that I've not seen several of those shows. I've not seen The Mentalist, Criminal Minds, Flashpoint, or Numbers at all.

And as for the CSI's, I've only seen about 4 episodes of CSI: NY. Watched it a few times, didn't really like the characters, and so stopped watching. I thought I'd like it the best as I like Gary Sinese. But I just couldn't get into it at all. :( CSI: Vegas, I've seen several episodes of - maybe 1/4 of the total number of episodes. And I've seen maybe about 1/3 of CSI: Miami. At this point, CSI: Miami is the only one that doesn't bore me. Which is really odd because I thought it would be the one I'd like the least as I wasn't a fan of David Caruso at all, going in. Now I actually like him. So go figure. I ended up liking them in the reverse order of preference from what I thought I would. But I don't watch any of them with much regularity - don't record any of the current episodes or anything like that. Only watch them in reruns on cable when I'm bored or something.

I do, however, like Without a Trace okay - maybe seen about 1/2 the episodes. I like those stories and a couple of the guys on that show are pretty cute , so I might watch an episode of that now and again. And I REALLY like Cold Case...although I've only seen about 1/2 of those episodes too.

So in the end, the only one of these CBS shows I'm really committed to is NCIS. I've seen every episode through the end of season 5, and most of the episodes of season 6.

So there you go. The reason I'm posting in this thread rather than on the CSI board.:)
