NCIS

^ I agree. I find them rewatchable, too. I think that's because I'm far less interested in whodunnit than who's-solvin' it. :)

Indeed. I watch CSI and the like (generally enjoy them too), but for me NCIS has the most rewatch value because of the characters.

Not sure how rewatchable the episodes will be on the second pass as the nature of these types of shows go, once you know the mystery there's not much suspence.

Actually, I have found the episodes of NCIS to be extremely rewatchable due to the well-written banter and wonderful character dynamics. Once I know how the mystery is solved and who, what, or where the story's red herring is, I can focus on those character moments and catch details I might have missed the first viewing.:)

Warmest Wishes,
Whoa Nellie

Warning - slight humor spoilers ahead (no plot spoilers though)

I agree. NCIS is much more re-watchable than most procedural cop shows because of the fun characters and the humor that is built into the episodes. Last night I watched a couple of episodes from season 5 on DVD and I always get a kick out of some of the stuff Tony says - making up new versions of "McGee" all the time, etc. Last night in one of the episodes I watched he referred to an attack dog as 'Semper-Fido'. And said this to Gibbs. Classic sort of moment. :techman: And in another episode he commented in wonder to that neat-freak girl (who was scrubbing her neck very hard with a wet-nap in the Baghdad episode) "I didn't know it was possible to hurt yourself with a wet-nap!"

And then there is the Gibbs humor. McGee down in Gibbs basement in need of a computer and Gibbs pulls out an ANCIENT 'laptop' the size of a briefcase which runs on DOS and hands it to him as if that will solve the problem. And then when McGee needs a printer, he pulls out a dusty dot-matrix and plops it on the counter as if that will ALSO solve the problem

These are the reasons these episodes are so wonderful to re-watch. :techman:

^ Yeah...that was one of the better ones from the group of episodes I watched last night.

But it is my opinion that we could have a blast, just cataloging the humor on that show in this thread.

For such a serious sort of show addressing serious crime, it really is a funny show.

They even manage to drop humor into the most upsetting of moments. For example: something happens and Abby gets all upset...and then she picks up that stuffed hippo and gives it a squeeze for comfort...and it farts.

These are priceless moments that just don't exist on other cop shows.

I started watching this show on USA only a few months ago when I was home from work one day and idly flipping through the channels. Within weeks, ordered the DVD sets, I fell in love with it so heavily. Since then I have watched the show from the beginning on DVD....and since I have been doing that, have run into several of the episodes I watched on USA only 2 or 3 months ago.

I find that I enjoy them just as much the second time. And the chief reason is the characters and the humor written in to each one. All of them are great.

I've been watching since last fall and have yet to find an episode I didn't like. :) Have to say my favorite characters are Gibbs, Ziva and Ducky.

OMG, I had forgotten "Semper-Fido"!! :guffaw::guffaw::guffaw:

My favorite part of that episode was when Abby took the dog (Jethro) to the crime scene and he ran away.

* Dog runs into the woods barking. *
Abby: (chases yelling) Jethro! Jethro!
Passing Marine: (Stops running and flirts) Can I be Jethro?

I think it's interesting that given the responses in this thread, there isn't ONE character that stands out as the universal favorite. On alot of shows, there are usually a couple of characters that seem to get more attention than the rest and really stand out. But on this show, everyone has fun and interesting characteristics.

I think that my favorites are Gibbs, Tony and Abby. Although really, I quite like them all because everyone gets their moment on that show.

For example, I really love the way Ducky talks to his 'patients'. I think that really humanizes what on alot of shows is rather a cold science. And I also love his stories that start with 'This reminds me of the time...'

It's really hard not to like a character like that!

^ I really like Ducky's mother. One of my favorite scenes was when he brought her to work and she tried to break into MTAC. The whole base goes on lockdown and then you see her hitting the optical reader with her umbrella.

I liked the one where she thought Tony was a gigolo, and the line to Kate "show me your knickers young lady". I also liked the scene when she hugged Abby’s hippo and she thought she had farted.

Yeah, that was hilarious.

PK, I agree with you about Ducky talking to the corpses on his table. I think it's endearing. And it indeed does make it more human instead of how on a lot of shows they say "the victim", but he usually addresses them by their names. Just once I want for Ducky to be able to finish a story to Gibbs though.

As for favorite characters, yeah, I like them all. Mark Harmon is my favorite of the actors on the show though.:drool::drool:

I love NCIS. I agree what really makes the show so watchable are the characters. Each character is unique with their own quirks, traits etc. DiNozzo is your typical jock. McGee is your computer geek. Abby is cute and goth. Ducky talks to his dead patients. And Gibbs is a great leader. He is driven, loyal, tough but capable of great compassion. These likeable characters, combined with suspense and tense plots make for great TV.

One of my favorite scenes is in the ep "Doppelganger" when Gibb's team meets up with another NCIS team that is just like them, even doing the same things. We see Gibbs and the other NCIS leader drink coffee the same way, even do the slap in the back of the head. Seeing the two teams act the same, created a great comedic moment.

And the show did some great story arcs, like the arcs about Sharif, Ari and La Grenouille.

I've always liked Mark Harmon. In fact, when I first stumbled across this show a few months back, Mark Harmon was the reason I paused the remote. I used to like him in that show with that deaf actress. Been a long time so I can't remember the name of the show, but, while I wasn't a regular viewer, I watched it enough for Mark Harmon to...erm...'make an impression'.

He's definitely a nice looking man. That's for sure. But for me it is more than that. He just seems... likable. Something about him makes you feel like he'd just be a really nice guy. Can't even really put a finger on it....but that's the way I feel. What do you think? Do you get that vibe from him?

But I gotta say this - Michael Weatherly is awfully nice to look at too. I suspect that he must be somewhat of a 'class clown type' IRL, however, or he'd never be able to pull off some of the stuff he does on that show. He has great comedic timing, IMO. Probably the best on the show.

Oh wow! I'd completely forgotten about that! That was frakkin' AWESOME! :guffaw: It was like MU NCIS or something. And what made it great was that they themselves realized it.

^ Yeah. I read that on Wikipedia, I believe, when I looked up the show and the actors.

I guess he was on Dark Angel...although I can barely remember that show now. Need to pull out the DVDs and refresh myself in it.

The thing I was fascinated by on Wikipedia, however, is how this show has actually grown in popularity every year. Most shows fade to smaller and smaller numbers every year...but this one is in season 6 and has actually grown in popularity every year so far, I believe!

Guess it makes sense. I mean, I myself am one of those new viewers.

But I think that's a really fascinating trend. You don't see that sort of thing too often. And IMO, is further proof that this is one really great show! :)

Weatherly was the male lead, the guy who was wheelchair bound in season one.

I hear that guy who plays Gibbs also did some stuff before NCIS. ;)
