NBA 2018-19: Does the Least-ern Conference Have avChance?

The Sixers will make it interesting but the way I see it, the East is Boston and then everyone else. Still, maybe there'll be some surprises with LeBron out of the conference.

I'm a huge Celtic fan, and I do think they're the favorites, but I think it's going to be extremely tight competition between them, the Raptors and 76ers. And remember the Celtics' conference dominance depends on two stars rebounding fully from injury and a second year player fully rising to high expectations. If ALLLLL those things happen, maybe they have a 20-30% shot against Golden State in a seven game series. Especially if Golden State has the kind of regular season struggles they did last year and Boston can steal home court advantage.

LeBron's first game in the purple and gold was surreal. Our defense against the Nuggs was total crap but the flashes I saw on offense have me very excited. Man, Rondo and LeBron passing the ball are a sight to behold. Cannot wait to see Lonzo mixed in. His presence will help our defense as well.

Can't say yet how much winning we'll do, but this team is going to be fun to watch.

Irving looking great, Hayward looking like he still needs to find his rhythm. Tatum looking great.

Robert Williams looking strong in preseason, though getting a little too much credit because he passed a ball instead of making a showoffy dunk. Could be a strong defensive sub by end of the season.

So...I'm just going to pretend Kyrie isn't a flat-earther so I can still root for him.

Maybe when I go to a Celts game this year I will carry a sign that says ‘Kyrie: Great at basketball, bad at science’ and has drawing of him standing on round Earth.

R.I.P. to Tex Winter at 96, creator of the triangle offense. I'm not a huge BBall fan, but those Bulls championship teams were practically unstoppable, along with the Lakers teams he worked with. He certainly made it possible for multiple superstars to shine on the same offense in a way rarely seen.

Tatum looks amazing so far, Irving and Hayward rusty. Horford still doing his facilitator role.

Boston fans are already panicking because of one loss to Raptors and close win against Knicks. Chill guys. 3 games in. Season is not a sprint.

^ Too bad. I've always liked TLue ever since he came into the league with the Lakers. He was always tough and smart. He'll get picked up by some other team before too long. Man, losing LeBron can be a coach killer (in Cle).

Why would anyone pick him up?

The question is, why wouldn't a team pick him up? Before his promotion in Cle, Lue worked steadily in the league as an assistant and was VERY well respected in that capacity. I expect he'll be on someone's bench before the season is over.

Celts end the last remaining undefeated season. More importantly, Kyrie is Kyrie and Hayward is almost Hayward. Celtics season is a go.

If you look at plus minus Tatum seems to have best on team even in games he doesn’t score much.

All of the hand wringing around the league over the Lakers' 3-5 start is way premature. All the talk about them needing three point shooters I guess, is by people who don't watch the games.

Earlier this week I checked team stats and the Lakers were in the top five or top ten,in scoring per game, FG%, shots per game, point in the paint, fast breaks, at the time I checked, the Lakers were only two points per game. All this without three point shooters. The way they play on offense, the Lakers might be the only team in the league that doesn't have to have 3 point shooters in order to score consistently.

Lonzo is shooting 40% from 3, which is great. Not a surprise, he shot about that after the all-star break last season. He was one of the best perimeter shooters in his draft, so, nice to see his shot finally coming around.

Lakers biggest problem remains defense and rebounding. We need another big man.

But the Rockets; they're in trouble. Couldn't happen to a better coach. Can't stand D'Antoni.

You’re lucky they waited 8 games to say the Lakers were overrated, Celtics fans started jumping off the bandwagon when they were 1-1.

This pathetic display Celtics are putting up against the Suns is making me officially pessimistic.

Every offensive possession goes disastrously wrong, Phoenix ends up with fast breaks, and they only score when they sink 3s or get fouled.

HOLY SHIT, we actually came back and won?!!?!

And Jayson Tatum, despite having only 4 points, has the best plus minus on the team again.

I only watched the first half of that game, and seriously, I have never seen the Celtics play as bad as they did in the first half. And I was a Celtics fan in 1996. They still won the game. I'm just astounded.

Wow, so Philly gets Butler. That is a bit of a surprise. I really thought Miami would get him, but I'v read that they were unwilling to part with a young player that Minny wanted included in the deal. Supposedly Minny didn't accept the four first round picks rumored to be offered by Houston, because they were determined to trade him to an eastern team. Daryl Morey is just going to have to hold his mud.

This is good news to western teams like the Jazz, Pels, Blazers, Spurs, Lakers, who may now have a slightly less difficult path to the conference finals. The Rockets will now likely have to do it without an added superstar. Good.

Of course, bad news for the Celts and Bucks, assuming Butler fits in with the Sixers. Woj is also reporting that Butler has announced he is willing to sign a new contract with philly for next season.

Of course with the way the Raps are looking these days, with the addition of Kawhi and subtraction of LeBron from the east, Butler's presence in Philly might not mean a lot this season at least.

Minnesota got value for the trade, but Butler is obviously the better player. If Butler re-signs with Philly, they got the better end of the deal. If he doesn't or if he has the same locker room issues he was bringing to Minnesota, Philly paid a steep price. I'm going to be really sad to see Robert Covington and Dario Saric go, although I'm impressed at the value the Sixers were able to leverage out of later picks.
