MLB Offseason - The Hotstove League

There's still a possibility that ARod will receive punishment, but, yeah, that's definite bullshit if a star gets favorable treatment even when clearly doing something far more obviously against the rules.

I don't think it's star vs. peon - they can't go back and punish Arod for something that he did when there wasn't a policy to address it. It's more that those who are caught cheating now (or whatever you want to call what Romero did) are going to be disproportionally punished so that Bud Selig can point his new 50-game suspensions out to those who say he turned a blind eye to performance enhancing drug use for years, and claim he's being "tough." And people gave Phillies fans a hard time for booing the guy.

keep defending your players pal.it's easy to see where your coming from. btw ,im not slandering anybody. im simply repeating what is being said here in new york on wfan, espn and in the daily news! i guess your right and their all wrong, huh?get your head out of the sand. you will attack anybody wearing a yankee uniform , but when it's a one of your beloved red sox you defend them to the end. your nothing more than a" homer " for them!i find you very hipocrital!when the story came out about a-rod i was the first person here to condeme him! at least im honest. i didn't try and defend his actions.btw as a yankee fan this is what i think of the big poppy news!:guffaw::guffaw::guffaw::guffaw::guffaw::guffaw:

What news? Are you making this up in your mind? This is the ESPN story:

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3925084

Tell me where it says there are reports that Ortiz took steroids or failed testing? Tell me. Because the story there is what being reported, not that Ortiz took steroids. When a story comes out that says: David Ortiz failed steroid test, then I will rip him and he will be in the same boat as A-Rod.

You still didn't answer my Robinson Cano question. Did he or did he not take roids, because he is being accused of the same thing that Ortiz is, that he worked out with a controversial trainer.

^The code for quoting really isn't that difficult to use.

What really bothers me is that Arod gets off scot free while Selig makes an example of JC Romero. He takes a OTC supplement with no MLB-banned ingredients on the label, finds out later when the PA issues a notice that this supplement can test positive, and then gets slapped with a 50-game suspension. He should have checked with the hotline obviously, but he did talk to the team trainer and got a second opinion and was told it should be okay before it turned out that it wasn't.

the reason a-rod got off scott free is because at the time he did the steroids there was no policy in place to punnish players. things have changed since. but a-rod really hasn't gotten off scott free. he's taken a beating in the media as the poster boy for steroid use , while the other 104 players who tested positive have not come forward !they are getting off scott free! those names should be released as well.
according to kirk radamsky more than half the players in the majors are taking illegal performance enhancing drugs.so far, he has been right about all his allegations. there is no reason to doubt him now.;)

i have been listening to none stop sports and your mention is the first i heard of cano. if he did them , he did them. i accept that. i make no excuses for my yankee players.i' consistany, unlike some people here!

You're missing the point. No report of Cano doing steroids. Nor is there a report of Ortiz doing them (despite you wanting it to be true). They are both just reported to have trained at a gym that this trainer also worked at. Beleive it was referred to as one of the bigger ones in the D.R., though, so a LARGE number of Dominican players used that gym.

NO report of either of them doing steroids, just having used the gym that paid the trainer that was linked to A-Rod.

What he is asking is (I think) why is that story enough to convict Ortiz in your mind, but Cano doesn't merit mention?

pal, your missing the point! i didn't create this story, i am simply repeating what has been stated here in new york , specifically by michael kay on espn radio, boomer esiason/craig carton, mike francesa, richard near and others on wfan radio . also mentioned every hour on wfan's hourley news update all citing an unnamed source at the new york daily news!you can choose to ignore it, disbelieve it, or whatever you want .i really dont care. but please, don't shoot the messenger!!!btw , wfan is reporting that manny ramirez is set to sign in a day or two with the dodgers, or is that wrong as well?

The Manny thing is probably accurate, since it's been obvious from the start that he's going to have to work something out with the Dodgers, as no one else wants him.

The rest is a joke, and continuing to repeat is just makes me laugh. If ANYONE actually releases a story saying Ortiz took steroids, people will be all over it, and you won't be able to avoid it. That WFAN will reach and connect a few rumors together and then take a leap, all to try and trash a Red Sox player, isn't exactly shocking. It IS, however, about on par with their usual journalistic excellence :techman:

And again, just to clarify: If your hourly update citing an "unnamed source at the NY Daily News" saying that Ortiz took steroids, or that a trainer that gave AROD steroids worked at this training facility, and most Dominican players worked out there, including Ortiz? The SECOND part I've heard everywhere, the first part only exists only in the New York Media (ignoring their OWN players that have admitted it), or as a misunderstanding in your head...

your a sox fan too , huh?personally i think your the joke!and i don,t appreciate the inference that it is a "misunderstanding in my head" i know what has been reported on the radio here! if you dont believe it, fine! btw , there have been many stories that broke here in new york and the rest of you yokels out there in buttfuck, usa get it months later.again, i dont care what you think. PERIOD!what you think and 50 cents will get me a cup of coffee!:guffaw::guffaw::guffaw: oh and "GO YANKEES!!!!!"

Please link to a report that says Ortiz did steroids, then, and stop being a homer. May wish to delete the couple of trolling bits in your post while you're at it. Maybe we could start with something easier, like you quoting the part of my post that you feel makes me a "joke"? Everything I said seems pretty spot-on from here...

Not sure why people can't have a halfway normal sports conversation without homerism and attacks. Like trying to talk to that Steelers fan in the football threads, nothing but random attacks, without any attempt at rational discussion to go with it.

For reference, here's the bit that mentions Ortiz, straight from the WFAN website:
Presinal, according to the Daily News, runs a gym in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. The paper also said he has worked with other notable major league players, including Pedro Martinez, David Ortiz, Vladimir Guerrero, Bartolo Colon, Miguel Tejada, Adrian Beltre and Jose Guillen.
Like I was saying, says he runs a gym popular with Dominican players, and then lists some players that have worked out there. Bold the part that says he did steroids ;)

Get your head out of your ass, your supposed feeling of NY superiority is showing. What is this, the 1850s? If someone in NY says with any sort of evidence that Ortiz was on roids, then everyone would know. Everyone. But guess what...no one did. And if something comes out that says he was, it would have NOTHING to do with what you are "reporting" here. If its such a big thing, and is so factual, why is no one else reporting it yet? Or at all? Because there is no story.

I swear, every time I think to myself why do I hate the Yankees so much, I meet one of their fans who acts like you, and I say to myself, thats why.

I can't wait to see then crash and burn again this year. That will be a truly :guffaw::guffaw::guffaw: moment.

Here is the Cano story, FWI:

superiority? well, lets see yankeees have 26 world series titles and the sox ...... 7. i would say that the yankees historically are the "superior" team.:guffaw::guffaw::guffaw::guffaw:

*yawn*

No link to a report saying Ortiz did steroids, then? Sounds silly to repeat to someone in a different market that they should listen to your radio station for proof. I did, however, link to that station's webpage, and the news report they are reading, and you ignored it and repeated your "proof" that Ortiz used steroids. How's THAT work?

As for the bit about how the Yanks are going to be first in the AL East, and the Sox won't make the playoffs: what would you base that on? And what's the worst that happens in that case? The Sox would be as bad as the 2008 Yankees?

And as for the tired old chestnut about how the Yankees are historically better? Yep, no argument there. Historically is kinda the key word, though, as no one on the yankees current roster was even ALIVE for more than the last 6 or so. Since they broke down in the 2004 ALCS, they aren't quite the same invincible team they used to be. It's a nice, rich history, no one will argue that, but trying to predict future success based upon wins from the 1950s isn't exactly relevent. :p

I hear it every year from you people. Hasn't happened for a while. But hey, when you end up in third place with a 210 Million Dollar payroll, I guess it starts to bug ya.

And this everyone, is why the Yankees, and their fans, are the most hated team in America. Thanks for playing.

If the Yankees think they are the best team in the division, they are wrong. They had to spend all that money to keep up with Tampa and Boston. They will be good, no doubt there, but Tampa is younger, and Boston has more depth, especially in the pitching staff.

We will see when the games are played.

doesnt bother me in the least. at least my teams owner invests his profit back into the team rather than greedily sticking those profits in his pocket like your teams owner!
most hated team in america???? according to???? you, i guess! actually their the most popular team in the world.http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_baseball_team_is_the_most_popular_in_the_world

let me ask you a question.... do you have a mental disability that doesnt allow you to process all the info i have posted here?here , let me tell you again. i have simply done nothing more than post a story that had been talked about on the radio here in new york! is that easy enough for you to understand?
let me tell you another thing . unlike you and tom servo i take my team and their players to task when they have done something wrong. who broke the a-rod steroid news and took him to task on this thread? me!!! i've been called a homer, yet i attacked a-rod for his steroid use. how can that be? i'm a homer according to you sox fans.

i'll tell you another thing. if it indeed turns out that ortiz didn't take roids i'm man enough to admit it and would probably be the first one here to post that story as well. if however the story is true i doubt either you or servo would have enough guts or class to apologise to me .you guys are the "homers"!

wow. your team actually beat us in 2004! i'm impressed! one time in 90 years ! you must be proud!:guffaw::guffaw::guffaw::guffaw:

and what do i base my statement on that the yankees will be the american league east champions this year? superior pitching and the best hitting lineup in the league! simple as that!;)

let me ask you a question.... do you have a mental disability that doesnt allow you to process all the info i have posted here?
Seriously, what's your problem that you can't post here without flaming others? Attacking others because they attack your POST (and not you) is poor form, at best. Debate the issues, cut the bullshit stuff outside of TNZ.

secondly, you haven't posted any info, you've just posted rumors you couldn't back up with anything more than "a guy on talk radio said he thought that Ortiz took steroids". If you have knowledge of a failed drug test, PLEASE be my guest...

here , let me tell you again. i have simply done nothing more than post a story that had been talked about on the radio here in new york! is that easy enough for you to understand?
And when asked to provide ANY sort of backup for that story, you've chosen to attack anyone that questions you. Nice. All you've brought to the table is that Yankees fans on talk radio were bashing a Red Sox player. Not exactly breaking news. Again, if you've got a link to a report, please share...

let me tell you another thing . unlike you and tom servo i take my team and their players to task when they have done something wrong.
Hasn't really come up yet, outside of the Manny blowup last year, and the Sox fans I saw were against Manny in that situation. Yankees fans, though, have had practice. Giambi, Clemens, Pettitte, A-Rod (any others, or did I get all the big ones?). What do you define as "taking to task", anyway? Talking mad for a minute on a BBS before cheering that same player when he does well?

who broke the a-rod steroid news and took him to task on this thread? me!!! i've been called a homer, yet i attacked a-rod for his steroid use. how can that be? i'm a homer according to you sox fans.
It was talked about in a couple different threads here, and reported on ESPN, pretty sure you didn't "out" A-Rod. Just from a "Truth in Posting" standpoint, TomServo made the first A-Rod/Steroids post in this thread, and RAMA started the seperate thread. You didn't break the news :)

i'll tell you another thing. if it indeed turns out that ortiz didn't take roids i'm man enough to admit it and would probably be the first one here to post that story as well. if however the story is true i doubt either you or servo would have enough guts or class to apologise to me .you guys are the "homers"!
Speaking of reading comprehension, scroll back through the thread. BOTH Tom and I have said that if it's proven that Ortiz took 'roids, we'd take him to task for it (well, wouldn't literally, as I don't have his cell number, but you get the point). Trying to paint other people as "homers" for something that you THINK we'll do IF a story breaks is insane! :wtf:

wow. your team actually beat us in 2004! i'm impressed! one time in 90 years ! you must be proud!:guffaw::guffaw::guffaw::guffaw:
No one said it was an equalizer, I said that since that game in 2004, the Yankees haven't been the same, the swagger is gone. Before that, the Yankees beat the Sox whenever it mattered. The Sox don't have that cowed look in their eyes in the big game anymore.

As for the "one time in 90 years" line: it was 86 years ;) Also, by my count, 2007 means it happened twice. And I wasn't the one trying to rest on my laurels from events that happened 50-60 years ago ;)

and what do i base my statement on that the yankees will be the american league east champions this year? superior pitching and the best hitting lineup in the league! simple as that!;)
Little early to be counting those chickens. Sox have owned Sebathia in big games that past few years, and his potential 20 wins just replace the 20 wins Mussina got you that you lost. Burnett is fragile (unless it's a contract year), Pettitte is older, and Chamberlain and Hughes aren't tested over a full season yet. Getting Wang back should certainly help, if he can overcome his big-game choking tendencies. The rotation has potential to be good, but I wouldn't start printing World Series Champions! t-shirts up just yet... :techman:
