Re: New (7/09) Lost SPOILERS Freighter!

From Ausiello:

Question: I'm dying to have some juicy Lost tidbits. I'll take anything I can get. — Brittany

Ausiello: Damn straight you will! Team Darlton is doing their annual “radio silence” thing, so Lost scoop is at a premium these days. Luckily, I managed to unearth this little morsel: John Terry (Christian) and Alan Dale (Widmore) are in talks to return next season on a recurring basis. Big frakkin’ whoop, right? Well, here’s where it gets interesting: In the fine print of both their contracts, it states that Lost has the right to pick up series regular options on both actors for the show’s sixth and final season.

Re: New (7/18) Lost SPOILERS Freighter!

Not too spoilery but here ya go:

Speaking at ABC’s TCA press tour today, LOST executive producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse explained how giving an end date for the series last year has truly reinvigorated the writing staff and streamlined how they’re going to get to the end.

“I think it completely changed our storytelling approach,” says Cuse.

Last year’s writer’s strike also gave LOST the ability to air the finished episodes and return to the show after the strike and utilize fan and friend feedback in the writing and completion of the remaining episodes of the season.

“We got feedback from audience and we were able to course correct,” says Lindelof who notes this year they won’t have that benefit, since the series will air in January, and they’ll be done writing shortly after that. “We’re done by writing the show at end of February, so there’s not an opportunity to get any feedback, which quite frankly scares the sh*t out of us.”

Most importantly, Cuse notes it’s a “tricky year for us,” since Season 5 is the linking mechanism to the final season the following year.

“This is year is the ‘TWO TOWERS year,’” explains Cuse in his reference the middle chapter of THE LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy that set everything into motion for the final chapter. “This is the year that links us to the past and the present. We knew what we wanted to do for a long time. The challenge for us is how to make this engaging and exciting, where everybody is really excited about the final season of LOST.”

As for teases on the new season, as usual the executive producers are tight lipped, but they do reveal this season will be about the Oceanic 6 getting back to the island.

“The people that are off the island, the island seems to be drawing them back and Ben [Michael Emerson] makes it clear they need to go back to the island,” says Cuse. “So hopefully that’s a lot of what you’ll see of in Season 5 -- the journey how those six return to the island.”

And for Lindelof, he notes “the worst thing we can do on the show is be boring,” and he prides himself on the fact that people are still talking about LOST after last year’s reinvigorated season and that the writers themselves are still engaged with the show’s twists and turns.

“Season 5 is very exciting for us,” says Lindelof. “At 86 hours into the sow, we’re going into Season 5 and the fact people are asking us, ‘what is the show going to be next year, how are you going to tell stories next year?’ It has been exciting.”
"Cuse hints that "the journey about how those six return to the island" will be a major thrust of Season 5. Adds Lindelof: "You have to break your characters up to create conflict... but you can't play that too long because the audience will get frustrated.... And we have that intensely in mind as we proceed.""

Cuse teases we'll see more of Daniel Dae Kim "in some form" this season despite Jin's apparent death.
Meanwhile, for those of you wondering about the casting of Lance Reddick (Lost's Matthew Abbadon) as a series regular on Fringe, J.J. said it's a safe bet he'll reappear on the Island. "When we were casting him, we hesitated because of his Lost character," J.J. admitted. "But then I realized if he goes and does another show, he'll be less likely to do Lost, so let's get him on this one, because I know the producer."

Re: News from Comic Con

article

Viewers watching the start of the next season of "Lost" will not initially know when or where the action is set. The episodes will not use pure flashbacks, or nothing but flash forwards, but will adopt a different storytelling model. The anonymous other Lost survivors on the Zodiac raft with Daniel Faraday will probably not survive.

Annnnd…that’s about it.

The Comic-Con "Lost" panel was very entertaining, despite being, as is necessary, light on spoilers. Executive producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse know better than anybody on the TV side how to play with the event’s panel format. There are videos screened for the occasion, surprise guests (Matthew Fox) and humorous prizes for fans asking questions. Still, there were a few tantalizing details for Losties here.

On the flashbacks/flashforwards: "We have something new this year," Cuse says, "we’re going to mix it up."
But the shows will still transition to ... something. They don't want the person who does the "whooshing" sound not to be employed, Lindelof jokes.
"The flash forwards were a bit limiting because we could only focus on The Oceanic Six, because we didn’t want to reveal other things -- like Desmond getting off the island," Lindelof says. "When season five starts, you won’t know when or where you are, and the way we tell stories will be different too."

Is the seemingly immortal Richard Albert the source of the four-toed statue?
"You’re going to see him barefoot in the very near future – and that’s a pun – the very near future," Lindelof says.

Other bits: When Desmond turned the key and everything turned purple at the end of season two, did the island jump? No, say the producers. Will Daniel Faraday and the random others Oceanic survivors on the Zodiac raft survive last season's finale? Faraday did, but as for the others ... "there's a monsoon coming," Cuse says.

Oh, and the dog, Vincent? He lives until the end of the show.

Re: News from Comic Con

Damn you, Jack Bauer, I was about to post the Q&A, but that article covers everything.

I'm particularly intrigued by the new storytelling approach for next season. I have a feeling some (maybe a lot) of people are going to be annoyed by it, I'm looking forward to it.

Re: Lost SPOILERS 8/8/08 new characters for season 5

From Ausiello:

Sources confirm that Team Darlton is looking to introduce two new characters this season – and they're both as mysterious as they are lethal. They're also coming in as recurring players with an option to become series regulars in Season 6.

First up is Casear, a dangerous, physical and extremely intelligent male between the ages of 35 and 45. Although his intentions are unclear, this much is certain: he's as skillful at charming people as he is at killing them. He also has a dark past, but, c'mon, that much was a given.

The other newbie is Ilanna, a European female in her late 20s to early 30s who possesses great intelligence, but who's also dangerous as all get out. She's alluring and apparently used to getting her own way.

How much do you want to bet that these 2 characters will be killed off in Season 5?

Re: Lost SPOILERS 8/8/08 new characters for season 5

Not if there's the option of becoming cast members in the final season.

Re: Lost SPOILERS 8/8/08 new characters for season 5

They sound like hitmen working for Widmore. Possibly hunting Ben and the other survivors. Sort of like the way Sayid is working for Ben. Can't wait for a Sayid vs. Caeser showdown.

Re: Lost SPOILERS 8/8/08 new characters for season 5

Not if there's the option of becoming cast members in the final season.

Unless they're treating these two like they did Ben or Nikki and Paulo. Have them on, see if people like them, keep them if they do, kill them if they don't.

There's also another character being cast: http://spoilerslost.blogspot.com/

Well looky here, everyone is getting into the LOST Spoilers Season spirit. First SAM and now Ausiello from EW is reporting that the LOST producers are looking for someone to play Dan, a new villain for season 5.

According to the report, the name Dan has a biblical connection, but Ausiello is speculating that this person will be one of Widmore's men.

Re: Lost SPOILERS 8/8/08 new characters for season 5

I wonder if the new characters will have to wait until season six before they get anything decent to do, like Daniel, Charlotte and Miles have had to wait until season five (well, I'm ASSUMING they'll get something to decent to do in season five...)

Re: Lost SPOILERS 8/8/08 new characters for season 5

To be fair, more of Daniel's, Charlotte's, and Miles' story was suppose to be told in season 4, but the writer's strike put a hamper on that. Their story was moved to season 5.

Re: Lost SPOILERS 8/8/08 new characters for season 5

Dan? For a new character name? I'm sorry... but we've already got a Dan... and we had a Danielle. :p

Re: Lost SPOILERS 8/8/08 new characters for season 5

And Danny Pickett...

and Daniel Day Kim

and Danny the father of Ana Lucia's unborn child

and Daniel Roebuck (Arzt)

I could go on...
