Why would you buy a DVD when you have the Blu-Ray?

Why would you buy a DVD when you have the Blu-Ray?

I already had TOS, movies and selected TAS on VHS and replaced updated them with DVD as they arrived. I bought TAS, TMP DE, TNG, DS9 and VGR on DVD and then the TOS new-CGI, TAS, movies, TNG and ENT Blu-Rays came out. Sometimes the DVD sets and Blu-Ray sets have quite different bonus features. For completist reasons, I ended up buying DSC and PIC sets in both DVD and Blu-Ray.

Does the DVD have different bonus features? If not, IMHO, the DVD should not be bought. The idea is to do away with DVD and let it just be Blu-Ray. DVD is obsolete. You cannot but a TV that is not HD compatible. It's getting harder to buy a TV that's not 4k.

Not in this case, no.

If not, IMHO, the DVD should not be bought.

Please do your own collecting. I happen to like having spare DVDs on hand in case someone asks to borrow something. Not all my friends have Blu-Ray, and one of my players is DVD-only. My main widescreen TV is still 3D-compatible, but not 4K.

DVD is still very popular in Australia.

My main 55" TV is 4k and 3D. But if I lost the 3D, I would not be bothered at all. I barely use it.

As for DVD, it's time has come and really should go. There's really no reason for it to still exist. We should have Blu-Ray and UHD Blu-Ray.

It is a shame that so many people cannot move on. Obsolete technology should really go away.

DVD still seems to be the primary format for home video. Most of the stores I shop at have way more DVDs than Blu-Rays, and there are still some shows and movies that aren't released on Blu-Ray. And there are still some devices around that only play DVDs, so I can see the sense in buying one of each.

It is a shame that so many people cannot move on. Obsolete technology should really go away.

For a lot of people it's not a case of not being willing to move on, it's a case of not having the money to spend on new tech - if you have a perfectly functional DVD player and the idea of seeing movies in higher quality isn't the most important thing on your wish list, then why spend the money when there's always other things to buy?


Also, this thread is not going to become a DVD vs Blu Ray thread, so now that I've said my piece (mod's perks ), let's move on.

I just bought "Mapping Smallville", because they don't have a normal companion book like DS9 or Angel have.
I hope that It's good, but I will save It for when i finished the show

New "Star Trek" stuff this week: the Eaglemoss "USS Shran" model and booklet; "Mr Spock's Little Book of Mindfulness: How to Survive in an Illogical World" (also Eaglemoss); and IDW's Issue #3 of "Voyager: Seven’s Reckoning".

I could not resist the Uncle Martin figure and ship from "My Favorite Martian" (an earlier incarnation of TNG’s Boothby?), who is the same scale as the Galoob and ReAction action figures.

I found I had some money from a either a gift or some other kind of credit on my Nook account a couple days ago, so I got A Furnace Sealed: The Adventures of Bram Gold Book 1, @KRAD's new original urban fantasy novel. I've been wanting to check out some of KRAD's original writing, and I love urban fantasy, so this looked like a good pick for me.

I noticed today that the reprints of the Kirk and Picard autobiographies came in different trade paperback sizes. The original hardcovers matched the new Janeway volume.
