Latest acquisition!

My copy of Warp Your Own Way arrived yesterday. And so did my harcopy first edition of Asimov's Treasury of Humor (the TPB edition my late mother gave me, decades ago, is falling apart).

I started working my way through the TNG-side of the Trek litverse in the middle of last year and scouring ebay, pangobooks, and used bookstores for finds has become a bit more than a hobby lol.

My last haul included Rogue Saucer (currently reading) and Q-in-Law, which I read as an ebook but needed a physical copy of because it was that much fun.

Two Gateways books (used) and The Exile of Khaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan Noonien Sing / To reign in hell by @Greg Cox. (Unlikely to be translated into German anytime soon).

I had to wait until I could purchase it, though. Quark and other Ferengi seemed to be the only salesmen for a long time - offering the book for exorbitant prices....;)

Alexander Kitten and Ben Bova's Escape both arrived in today's mail. I took time out from ADF's memoir to re-read Alexander Kitten. Twice. All 25 heavily-illustrated pages of it. The cover price was 25 cents. For a Smyth-sewn hardcover. For the first time in over 5 decades. It's as good as I remember it. Escape is shorter than I remember: barely novella length.

*****
Over the weekend, Joan Morris's memoir, Let Me Sing And I'm Happy, arrived. I knew that this had already qualified as a "rare book" while it was being printed and bound, which is why I was prepared to pay through the nose for a TPB, but I never expected to get an autographed (to somebody I'd never heard of, back in 2019) copy.

New Trek stuff by Ian McLean, on Flickr

New arrivals for this week:

"Star Trek Adventures" boxed set of RPG materials (Modiphius, 2024); "Strange New Worlds: Asylum" (Gallery, 2024) hardcover novel by Una McCormack; and three titles from IDW comics: "Star Trek" #28; "Lower Decks" #3; and the hardcover omnibus of "Defiant", vol 3.

I also found a print version of a trade paperback (that I already had as an eBook), "Strange Novel Worlds: Essays on Star Trek Tie-in Fiction" (McFarland & Co, 2024) edited by Caroline-Isabelle Caron with Kristin Noone.

I was in two minds about these, since there will only ever be Volumes 1, 2 and 3 of this suddenly-truncated series of "Star Trek" episode monographs from Obverse Books. They are available as paperbacks or eBooks, or the bundle of three can be purchased through the publisher. The three titles are: "The Return of the Archons" (TOS) by Brian J Robb; "Through the Valley of Shadows" (DSC) by Alisdair Stuart; and "Spock's Brain" (TOS) by Nick Joy.

But what finally piqued my interest was the announcement of this "lost" volume...

"Depths of Forever" by DRG3 by Ian McLean, on Flickr

This lost volume of the "Star Trek" episode monograph series is available through Amazon as a PDF eBook (only). This volume is "Depths of Forever: A Look Back at 'The City on the Edge of Forever'" (TOS) by David R George III.

After assuming this one was really gone forever, the eBook turned up today and I am very excited to see that I have an acknowledgement on Page 66 of this volume. Thanks so much, DRG3!

And, with an Arex story, some TAS-styled artwork inside!

Artwork by Philip Murphy & Aaron Harvey from "Forewarned and Three-armed" by Rich Handley.

And great to see this:

"From Slavery to the Stars: A Personal Journey" audio by Ian McLean, on Flickr
Andreea Kindryd's autobiography, read by the author, published by author2audio, 2024, 776 min.

Several years ago, I ran a Meetup Group for Sydney-based Trek fans. Out of the blue, I was contacted by Ms Kindryd. Her name was completely unfamiliar to me, but she was Gene L Coon's secretary during the production of TOS. She hoped to come along to one of our monthly meetings... and then Covid happened!

Ande performed her one-woman show, originally called "From Slavery to Star Trek", at the Adelaide Fringe Festival, was invited to the notable Edinburgh Fringe in Scotland, and then returned for a limited tour. And now it's a hardcover, a paperback, an audio and an eBook!

New from IDW: "Star Trek" #30; and "Star Trek: Lower Decks" #5.

Also arrived is a Trek parody RPG manual for "Boldly Go!: Action! Adventure! Science Fiction!" (Geoffquest, 2021) by Geoff Bottone & Bob Dunham, illustrated by David Woodward.

Three new Pops: Borg Queen of "Star Trek: First Contact" and Jack Crusher Jr of "Star Trek: Picard" plus Captain Taggart of "Galaxy Quest".

And... New from IDW: "Star Trek: Defiant" #25; and two cover versions of "Star Trek: Lore War" #1.

UPDATE: New from IDW is "Star Trek: Lower Decks" #6. Cover art inspired by "James Cameron's Titanic".

Also arrived is copy of "UFO Trek" (Sphere, 1977) a non fiction paperback book by Warren Smith. (I remember seeing this in my early days of rummaging book stores (in the early 80s) for early "Star Trek" books for my collection and it always caught my eye. The cover also seems deliberately reminiscent of "The Day the Earth Stood Still".)
