Latest acquisition!

I've been wanting to read War Zone for a while, but I haven't been able to find it anywhere around me. Now that Titan has been rereleasing the Pocket Star Marvel books, I'm hoping they'll do one with that and Jeffrey Lang's FF book.

"The Klingon Empire" Core Rulebook (Modiphius, 2020)
by Ian McLean, on Flickr

This just arrived at my local gaming store. With contributions from many familiar names, including Jim Johnson, KRAD, Dayton Ward, Christopher Bennett, Scott Pearson and Dr Lawrence M Schoen.

Finally in da house, after both the UK and US imports to my local bookshop were held up by Covid-19: “The Art of Star Trek: Discovery” (Titan Books, 2020) hardcover coffee table book by Paula M. Block and Terry J. Erdmann. Accompanied by Mego Saru the Kelpien (middle) and my custom action figures of Linus the Saurian (left), Grudge the cat and Ryn the Andorian (right).

New CovidSafe "Star Trek: Picard" prequel novel in hardcover arrive Down Under on Friday. "The Dark Veil" by James Swallow!

UPDATE:

Syd Mead and TMP Music covers
by Ian McLean, on Flickr

New book arrivals this week. "The Movie Art of Syd Mead, Visual Futurist" (Titan Books, 2017) hardcover, which has ten glossy pages dedicated to "Star Trek: The Motion Picture"; and a 1979-vintage "The Musical Themes" (Charles Hansen II Music & Books of California Inc.), which I mainly wanted for the full-page TMP cast pic that once appeared as a promotional standee in cinema foyers.

New Trek stuff
by Ian McLean, on Flickr

New and retro stuff! I only recently realised that the iconic cutaway art of a USS Enterprise poster, created for "Star Trek: The Motion Picture" by David Kimble, is an additional double-page spread in "David Kimble's Cutaways: Techniques & Stories Behind the Art" (CarTech, 2015). Some second hand copies seem to go for a fortune, but I lucked onto a great price.

Also arrived are Omni Music's "'Star Trek: The Motion Picture' in Full Score" (2021, 473pp); IDW's "Star Trek: Year Five" comic mini-series, issue #19; and... the return of the photonovel with "Star Wars: The Mandalorian, Season 1: Volume 1" Screen*Comix. (I know it's not Trek, but it will go with my collection of Fotonovels and Photostories.)

Nice! I've been putting off getting the third one, as my shelf can't take another TOS book :D

Cinefex issue #172
by Ian McLean, on Flickr

The final issue of "Cinefex" (issue #172) is in da house. Has a great article on "Star Trek: Discovery" Season Three. So sad the magazine is ending. I have every "Star Trek" SFX issue, from #1 and #2, which featured 1979’s "Star Trek: The Motion Picture".

And my copy of "Robert Wise: The Motion Pictures" (Revised Edition) just arrived!

I took advantage of the April sale to get Star Trek TOS: No Time Like the Past by @Greg Cox. I've been dying to read this one since it was first announced, but I held off on getting it because I had been focusing my Trek reading on TNG/Titan and then SCE & Voyager. The sale finally gave me an excuse to get it.

Latest Trek stuff
by Ian McLean, on Flickr

I have been away for two weeks, but lots of new stuff waiting for me. "Star Trek: Picard" 2021 Calendar and the Season One soundtrack album (a double vinyl LP set) and a "Star Trek: Enterprise" trivia book (which, surprisingly, is an unlicensed, print-on-demand title, as it turns out - the "dedication" is amusing: it directs readers to a Macmillan link about e-book copyright infringement).

I wasn't sure whether to get the IDW reprint of "The Gift" (below) or not. I weakened. Also in was the Hero Collector book, "Star Trek Cocktails: A Stellar Compendium" by Glenn Dakin.

And in today's mail:

A friend was downsizing and sent me her copy of "The Unauthorized Starfleet Daily Meditation Manual" by Mark Stanley Haskett (IF Books, 1996). Also in the mail this morning was the new Mego 8" Captain Christopher Pike from "Star Trek: Discovery". Here they are with my custom Linus the Saurian and the licenced "Star Trek Cocktails: A Stellar Compendium" (Hero Collector/Eaglemoss, 2020) by Glenn Dakin.

Also newly arrived this week is the Spock TMP costume card, with a sample piece of black fabric from his Vulcan meditation robe.

Magazine to accompany a GE Fabbri release of the Director's Edition DVD of "Star Trek: The Motion Picture" (I have much of my collection in storage, but I saw this online and was not sure if I already owned it.). Also a French language fact card on TMP from the "La Science Fiction: les effets spéciaux" series; and Kate Mulgrew narrating her autobiography, "Time to Forget".

More new Trek stuff
by Ian McLean, on Flickr

Big week for Trek stuff. IDW's "Star Trek: Year Five" comic #20 is out. Also arrived: "Star Trek: The Motion Picture" folder of collectible phone cards; "Star Trek: Discovery" Season One soundtrack, a two-LP set of music composed by Jeff Russo; a Quotable Star Trek card of Commander Thelin of "Yesteryear" (Filmation's animated series); and Dark Horse's "The Orville" comic ("Digressions", issue #1).

IDW's "Star Trek: Year Five" omnibus #3 and faux cover of "Have Phaser, Will Travel"
by Ian McLean, on Flickr

"Weaker Than Man", the third omnibus of IDW's "Star Trek: Year Five" comic maxi-series. Plus I picked up this faux cover art by Benjamin Angus (printed for me at my local OfficeWorks) for a fictitious book of anecdotes by Ian McLean. Ben designed the cover in 2014 when the "52-Week Illustration Challenge" was running. One day the actual book might happen.

The second of those (seemingly unauthorised) print-on-demand "Star Trek: Enterprise" trivia books finally arrived.

And, although I already had all of these Peter Pan "Star Trek" audio stories in other formats, I really liked the artwork and pics on this 1979 LP. Came still in its original shrink-wrap (and vintage "$1" remaindered stock price tag!). The movie Enterprise artwork was created for TMP and used to promote several tie-in products over the years; later also associated with the Cliff Eidelman-produced "Astral Symphony" CD (in the lead-up to ST VI). The back cover includes photos from "Star Trek: The Motion Picture", including a Memory Wall shot - and an actual writing credit for Alan Dean Foster (often omitted in the previous variations).

Pride of the Fleet
by Ian McLean, on Flickr

"USS Enterprise: Pride of the Fleet" by Scott Tipton is a slim booklet accompanying a 2012 Becker&Mayer! Books paper craft kit, "Build the USS Enterprise". It arrived the same day as a hand drawn Thelin the Andorian card by Bien Flores and an autographed Senator Cretak (Adrienne Barbeau) card.

More arrivals: Star Trek audio stories with a "Star Trek: The Motion Picture" tie-in cover; IDW's omnibus of three related stories in "The Next Generation: Mirror Universe Collection"; and an ad for the forthcoming IDW "Star Trek: Year Five" finale, Issue #25.

The calendars seem to arrive at Galaxy Bookshop earlier and earlier every year! The pesky Andorian Sock Monkey demanded he be “included” in the 2022 “Star Trek Calendar” from Universe Publishing, and jostled into position as I took the pic.

Sorry for three posts in a row.

My comic order just arrived via post (Yay! Two issues at once!) but my copy of "Discovery: Wonderlands" is still trapped in the city, as Sydney enters Week Three of an unexpected Delta-strain Covid Lockdown. It may be several months before I can get out and about again. Australia's vaccination rates are way too low.

But here is my latest acquisition:

IDW's comic maxi-series races towards its finale that will intersect with "Star Trek: The Motion Picture" with its 25th issue.

New Trek stuff in Lockdown
by Ian McLean, on Flickr

With Sydney into its seventh week in a Wave 3 Covid Lockdown - and no end in sight - several parcels arrived by post: "Starship Therapise: Using Therapeutic Fanfiction to Rewrite Your Life" by Larisa A. Garski & Justine Mastin (North Atlantic Books, 2021); IDW's "Star Trek: Year Five" comic Issue #23; and two Gallery Books' novels, "Discovery: Wonderlands" by Una McCormack and "Living Memory" by Christopher L. Bennett; three autographed trading cards from "Star Trek: The Motion Picture"; and some cool #insulin4all fundraiser goodies from Noah A-K (Ryn) and Mary Wiseman (Tilly).
