News INTERNATIONAL RIGHTS TO AMAZON!

It is at least pushed on prime’s internal advertising

at least for me

obviously I haven’t watched lower decks at all before this.

I have watched four episodes now, it's actually quite funny. Hopefully they make more than just the initial two seasons.

Saw an ad on the home page of Amazon Fire TV and a trailer before seeing latest episode of The Expanse the other day. Intend to watch the series soon though I'll admit that I'm not exactly in a mad rush to see it, maybe the wait has been so long that it has jaded any excitement I started out with last year. The last time we had to wait months for new episodes was back in the 2000s when Sky One was like six months or so behind the US broadcasts.

I know, due to the pandemic this didn't really roll out the way they had planned, but still, I almost can't imagine how they could have botched the international release any more. First this huge delay between the US premiere and an international release. And now they're doing little, if any, in the way of advertising this. What is this, 1999? I hope I'm wrong, but frankly, I'd be surprised if this gains a significant viewership. If this tanks in the international market, they've only got themselves to thank for it. I kind of wonder what happened behind the scenes to so completely fail in delivering the show to international viewers.

I doubt CBS are too bothered to be honest. Any money they were going to get off this series internationally was going to be gravy at the best of times without a global pandemic. It's not like Star Trek is a major brand internationally anyway (apart from a handful of places like the UK and Germany). Also they're clearly aiming this series at nostalgic fans, not people whose first experience of Trek was say Discovery.

Maybe we'll see more of a push come season two. Still though people will be free to watch it whenever, maybe there will be more of audience by the time season two comes out, preferably at the same time as the US and Canada.

I wonder why Amazon didn't get the rights for Latin America. Aren't they meant to be launching Paramount+ there soon? Maybe they're holding it back for that.

Well, just had another run at it for completeness sake.

Three episodes to go. Liked it marginally more on a big TV screen.

I've seen it advertised plenty, at least on Amazon/Twitch. In fact, the reason I remembered it was out was because I was watching the new Expanse and the Amazon ad before it was LD.

I don't know, I'm just wondering how people who aren't already on those platforms are going to learn about it …

I feel like this didn't even get half the promotion that Discovery and Picard got. Sure, those are live action shows and are more likely to attract a general audience, but I still think this went under the radar of a majority of people who aren't already following prominent Trek social media channels and the like.

I primarily got ads by podcast.

I hope we don't have to wait and wait and wait for season 2 on Amazon Prime.

I get the feeling that season 2 will be released by Amazon Prime a similar manner to season 1, all 10 episodes at once after the season has concluded its run in the US which should be in early October by the looks of it. I hope we won't have to wait till the following year this time.

It was just confirmed that Lower Decks Season 2 will air on Prime Video starting on August 13th. It will air one episode per week, and final episode will air on October 15th.

This is great news, as the series will finally air closer to the original air date. Hopefully we get the blu-ray in Europe as well, we still don't have news in Discovery season 3 either.
