How is Garrett Wang a billionaire?

Many of the comments indicate it's incorrect information.

That's true but there is no definitive answer one way or another if it's correct or not. If you type into Google, "Garrett Wang net worth,' several other websites seem to affirm he is. I was simply curious to know if anyone had any idea if this was firstly true or not,, and if not what is he worth? And if it is true, how?

Correct or incorrect, theoretically it can be possible. Lets say he made some very good investments and they paid off.

Or he was born into a wealthy family.

In reality though, it seems pretty clear that it's not accurate given that the above link suggests Wang himself was rather amused by the information.

Without trying to sound bitchy, I doubt a billionaire would do the amount of conventions and appearances that Wang does, as someone hints on that Reddit.

I was really surprised to learn that Garrett Wang - our Harry Kim - is worth several billion $. How is is possible?
I cannot seem to find a reasonable explanation if this is even true firstly, and how is this possible?

Garrett Wang worth several billion $?[/url

Or possibly he would do MORE since they are just fun.

So a guy who has four billion has no better way to spend his time and have "fun" than sitting at a chipboard table selling his scribble for 15 bucks a time?
Have you seen him at a con? He has fun, most of the actors do. He is usually the most fun and entertaining of the speakers and even when he's at his table he engages people, poses for pictures, runs around, and really seems like he's having fun. He could be faking all of it of course, but I don't think he's THAT good of an actor LOL.

A bi..bi...lllion.....

Have I ever told you how much I admire Garrett Wang. Garrett Wang is a great actor. I've always said it. Despite all the bile that gets flung in his direction, I've always stood alone defending him from all the haters that regularly pile on top of him. It maybe immodest of me to say so but I'm his number one fan. That masterful screen presence, he literally owns the Voyager bridge. When it comes to extracting that extra layer of angst and emotion from a scene, even a world class actor like Tony Hopkins has got nuthin' on Garrett Wang,. Wang remains peerless. A standard all his own. Yes he's THAT good, guys.

He's a great con guest, down to earth, engaging, talks to attendees outside of the con, notably fantastic to see.

One of his stories is about how little money they make off royalties.

Now as to why would he bother doing all these cons if he was a billionaire.. well Mr. Shatner isn't exactly pov and he does them, presumably for the adulation? But no, Wang is not a billionaire.

Thanks. Garrett then must be stealing the internet fame from someone else for being one. As someone said earlier, if he was a billionaire why would he attend convention after convention for $25/pop autograph signing opportunities. But you never know. Some people just love Star Trek, the science fiction genre generally, and and adulation from fans. And lets be honest, ST fans are some of the most loyal of all fan bases.

Regarding Mr. Wang's acting abilities I'd give him a C+ to B- . While he tried to give the character depth, I think most of the time both Wang and Harry Kim as a character was boring and one dimensional. However, one notable exception to me was Author, Author, where Harry essentially comments on his own character in the holo-novel the Dr. created exaggerating his own paranoia and spinelessness.

^^^ Holy shit. You have to have a lot of disposable income and be a hard core fan to to pay $50 for Garrett Wang's signature.

I've never been to a Trek convention so I had no idea how much signatures are. I simply knew they were not free. Just out of curosity how much does Shatner's, Stewart's, et al the rest of the captains command?

It depends on the convention. The biggest convention company right now is Creation. I was at a convention this past August. Shatner is $100. The last time Stewart did one it was also around that price. Kate Mulgrew was $75 I don't remember what Avery Brooks was. Other people range from $25 to $50.

Have you seen some of the crap people buy? I bet if Bill Shatner took a dump in a bucket and put it up for sale somewhere someone would fork out for it.

I once knew a woman who went to an R.E.M concert and saved a bit of something that fell off of Michael Stipe's shoe. Another 'fan' once asked him to dump his cigarette ashes into an envelope. I wouldn't have been surprised if both things turned up on e-bay. The silliest most fannish thing like that I ever did was 'touch' a guitar pick that Michael Miles threw into the audience that was caught by a friend of mine but I didn't have to pay money to do it...yeah...fans can get silly.
