Spoilers General Disco Chat Thread

I've given up on the idea of a follow-up TV Movie, given what we know now, but I'm still holding out hope for an eventual follow-up in print media.
I wouldn't hold my breath on that. Star Trek novels are practically non-existent these days, and what few are published are either TOS or SNW. Meanwhile, IDW is wrapping up all their comic series with the intent of having them all finished by the end of the year, which combined with the fact IDW is a company that's been having financial problems in recent years, well...

True. When IDW gave up their rights to Transformers and GI Joe, I kind of figured Star Trek might not be too far behind. So, that news isn't a surprise.

I wonder why there's been such a dramatic decline in tie-in novels during this era?

There are various factors. With all novels being either trade paperback or hardcover, the price of them now means we're not getting twelve a year. That and with new Trek content airing on TV regularly, it's not considered as high a priority to get a new novel out to maintain the franchise's presence like it was during 2005-2017. Granted, it's really scaled back very far even taking that into account. Since 2022 there've only eight novel releases total, not counting the new one due out next week.

With the recent (and sudden) loss of the only editor overseeing the Trek novel line, I have a feeling we're going to be seeing even less novel output.

IDW is bringing out new series. I think an eventual post-season 5 comic is a no-brainer.

Well, even if IDW loses the rights at some point soon, someone else will pick up the rights, and they'll do what they do, so we'll see.

As far as Pocket Books, I think they're waiting to see what happens next before they make their next move, with anything. Which takes us back to "we'll see".
