FUTURAMA: Rebirth

So, how did you like it?

^Well, that's your opinion. But it's a minority opinion, so don't expect the makers of Futurama to share it.
I don't, but it's not impossible. Anyway, they parody things they like all the time, and you can't deny the movie has the flaws I noted, and many others.

...Spock is a homicidal maniac....Old Spock tells Young Spock to go recreate a bromance from another dimension while he repopulates with the young Vulcan babes and...

That settles it. You didn't watch Trek XI, you hallucinated. Next time, try criticising something that actually exists.
Seriously? Spock tries to beat and strangle Kirk to death, and when his father (after a while) says something, he shoots Kirk out alone in a space pod to crash on a planet with a deadly environment and hostile life forms. The scene at the end unfolds exactly as I described: Vulcans face extinction, Young Spock wants to help repopulate, Old Spock says he'll do it because Young Spock's destiny lies with Kirk. Bizarre, but true.

Spock tries to beat Kirk after Kirk returns from the planet, not before. Also, Kirk was trying hard to provoke that reaction from him.

It has many flaws, but not the ones you noted, because you're twisting the facts to an absurd degree. And every prior Trek movie has plenty of flaws as well, particularly TWOK, so it's a spurious objection.

But I'm not going to argue it here. This is the Futurama thread. If you want to argue about ST XI, do it in the ST XI forum.

So "Star Trek" is still okay, then? Man, that Chris Pine is hot.

Considering their slightly-stronger-than-Simpsons continuity, why is Amy still an intern?

Why is Amy there at all? I don't recall her actually having a job function.

And why clone and bring back the crew? Why not just get a new crew, like they were ("Contents of space wasp's stomach").

The career chips weren't duplicated, and we didn't see or hear anything about getting new ones, so ... what's to stop some of them from changing jobs if they so chose?

She has the same blood type as the Professor, so he keeps her around in case he needs to harvest her organs. Plus she's insanely rich, so she probably helps keep Planet Express in business.

And why clone and bring back the crew? Why not jsut get a new crew, like they were ("Contest of space wasp's stomach").

At the start of the series, Planet Express was a pretty obscure delivery service. By now, they've been involved in many events of galactic significance, so their abysmal safety record is probably well-known by now. The Professor may not have found anyone else willing to take the jobs.

Or maybe he just wanted an excuse to try out his new stem cell rebirthing chamber.

Oops. Premeditated murder attempt followed by homicidal rage then. My bad. :D

Well, I didn't. Everybody jumped on me for mentioning it. :rommie:

Come on, man. You said I claimed it was universally hated; I just said it was bad and used examples from the film. But enough....

You used inaccurate and distorted examples. Others pointed out your errors. It's as simple as that. You're entitled to your opinion about the film, but if you make factually inaccurate statements in a public forum, you should expect them to be corrected.

From AICN:

* “Futurama” enjoyed an impressive return, tying “Burn Notice” and “Royal Pains” as Thursday’s top cable series in 18-49. A 1.6 is better than any episode of “South Park” that ran last fall, but not as good as any episode of “South Park” that ran early this year. It did much better than “The Sarah Silverman Program,” “Important Things,” “Secret Girlfriend,” the post-pilot “Jeff Dunham Show,” “Ugly Americans” and most of the channel’s other primetime fare.

Yep. As I had said earlier, it wasn't quite up to par for me anyway, but like The Simpsons, a bad episode of Futurama is better than a good episode of just about anything else, and it's always watchable.

Why? You do it all the time, but whenever you're called on it, you pretend it never happened.
