Federation Reference Series Online HACKED

USS Mariner

Rear Admiral
Rear Admiral
Guys, some asshole just f*cked the forums on aridas's homepage (see sig.)

Someone please kill these assholes. :(

After the hacking, my web host decided it was no longer in his best interest to provide the FRS site in return for my regular art postings and the contributions of Todd Guenther and Mike Morrissette. He sent a bill, which isn't in my best interest to pay. So, the site is gone.

It will be back, when I have learned the skills to build it anew. Until then, for FRS.com, adieu.

Arrrgh, fuck another good site bites the dust. This keeps up they'll be nothing be nothing but news sites and official sites left on the 'net.

Sorry to hear the news aridas, best of luck on sorting it all out.

Perhaps it is of little consolation, but my site (via the same host as FRS) was also hacked by this group of amateurs. They merely went in and fiddled with the Forum Preferences in hopes of causing blind panic. It failed and the vulnerability was easily remedied.

So, I am not so sure the knee-jerk reaction on either side of the fence was at all warranted...

I co-founded the FRS Online with Aridas and was extremely proud of the accomplishments we made. It is a shame that our working relationship took the downturn that it did. Perhaps if I had not taken my own knee-jerk reactions, the problem could have been easily fixed. It is academic now..ofcourse...

My "Star Trek: Hell's-Gate" sites are still up & running at Geocities & Angelfire. No-one's hacked me yet. My Yahoo Groups are also still intact, therefore, everyone's free to head there now that "Guardian Of Forever" is gone & so is "FRS".

Screencaps & Fan Fic are both welcome at my sites.

It doesn't have to be academic, you know. Even if it will take time to rebuild the site, there is no better time to fix a friendship or working relationship than now.

Jason -- You are invited to be involved if I ever put a new version of the site together. I hold no hard feelings, and am aware that any disagreement has more than one parent.

I appreciate the invite mate. Better that be sooner rather than later. The grey hairs in my goatee are becoming alarming. . .

In the case of the hack job, I no longer had the power to guard the backdoor and repair it when I could/should have. :brickwall:

In the meantime, starfleetnet is at your disposal for anything you may need. This goes for Todd and Mike as well.

I'm sorry to hear that too. I had a partial speculative mirror universe timeline there. There's one on Trek BBS here, but the one at FRS had some more details.

In the meantime I've suggested to Siteadvisor that they might want to take a look at "virangar".

I was wondering what happened. Noticed your sig just now, aridas. It sucks, but to be honest the forum software had odd behavior, so I guess a new version might be a good thing ;) Do you own the domain name yourself?

I'd be willing to help out with webdesign or something, if you should require it.

I do own the domain name, and would be very thankful for your involvement, Harry. I was thinking of doing my own version of a "Starfleet Museum-like" layout, with a ships/chronology section and a blog/comments section. Not being familiar with much html, I was going to use Apple's iWeb software and my dotMac account to get the site back up, but I'm very interested in what your ideas might be.

I can't tell you how many times we had to apologise for that forums package! But..it was free, and at the time the site was put together, having a free forums package seemed attractive. That being said, there were times when we should have migrated over to some other forums solution.

On laying out the site along the lines of the Starfleet Museum, I would say that is "do-able" though it can get quite messy and incoherent if you do not have the entire site mapped out page for page.
