Anybody else think that Docent looks a lot like Lt. Reg Barclay?
My first thought was, "why not make it Barclay?" He'd need to look a little older, and it would probably have to be on a Starbase.
Barclay would be the perfect candidate for LD.

Yeah, I noticed that as well. I guess it's out of habit, because they are always doing it for the live action shows. Makes a little less sense when you don't actually see the actors they are talking about.
I would think that given Barcley's role in contacting Voyager and the work he put into the crew's safe return, that he would warrant a better posting than the Cerritos.

I also really hope the entire plot isn't, "Mariner thinks Boimler is such a nerd that it's impossible for him to have a girlfriend."
That seems very much, "Biting the hand" humor when it comes to Trek given many of them (all?) are nerds. It's also incredibly nasty of Mariner to treat her supposed friend that way.

When *I* got a girlfriend, even *I* had to wonder if it was actually happening. Then cohabitation, marriage, fatherhood. Sometimes I wonder if I'm a clone or evil duplicate.

My assumption might be wrong, but I think Docent is on the Cerritos. Starfleet symbols are silver on the Cerritos and purple on the Vancouver. This is seen in the trailer for the episode.

I could see Reg specifically asking for that kind of assignment.
Going in after the fact when all the initial messy "get-to-know-you" stuff is done and they are just setting up a functional Ambassadorial Communication Station.
We did last see him working in a communication type environment on "VOYAGER".
I suspect that he would consider it to be much less stressful for his personal mental hygiene.

"Docent" is a title. I'm not sure how this is used in the Starfleet context, but when I went to the USS Midway museum, the Navy vets were identified as docents while they toured us around the ship. What does that mean for this guy? Is the Vancouver a museum? Does the Vancouver HAVE a museum?
The screenshot - or even the script - may have purposefully disguised this such that IF Dwight Schultz were brought in as Reg, they could keep his casting a secret for longer. If this is true, then well done, LDS!

Yes.
We have been told some legacy characters will show up this season. So this could be one.
I'd like that - but on closer inspection the link does show that the Docent is voiced by Matt Walsh. Unless Dwight Schultz had unexpectedly retired - he HAS been working more in voice roles in the past few years - I'd now think that this other character can't be ol' Reg.
