Enterprise Era Starship Thread

I don't think we ever had one of these threads for Enterprise, so I figured I'd start one. Better late than never.

Just to kick it off, why not show some love to the titular star of the show....

The NX-01.

I've always thought she was one of the most beautiful starships in the franchise. She's so perfectly balanced and well thought out. Everything has a purpose.

Both inside and out, I love the futuristic, but not too futuristic look they managed to achieve. She genuinely, in my opinion, looks like a predecessor to the Constitution class. Especially when you throw Strange New Worlds into the mix.

Weirdly I wasn't a big fan of NX-01 until I aquired the Art Asylum model. Then I thought she looked great. At the risk of derailing the thread, I hate the ugly ass, unbalanced, ungainly NX-01.5 refit.

I also like the NV-class Intrepid, that was a great bulky awkward mini version of Enterprise. The half-saucer and nacelles almost touching said saucer has a weird charm.

There's just something about holding it in your hands. About seeing all the angles. I've had that happen with a few ships.

Can't say I disagree. It definitely throws whole flow of the ship outta whack.

I'm also a fan of the design. I like to think of it as an immediate predecessor to the NX class. A test bed for a lot of the new tech that went into Enterprise.

A few other Earth vessels of the era.

Known only as the Delta, I rather like the simplicity of the design.

Then we have the Sarajevo. Which is very different, but I kinda like that about it. I'm unsure if if was a Starfleet ship or something else. Perhaps it could be an example of an Earth's military ship.

I'd never noticed the Sarajevo had a registry number on it before. For what it's worth, the "Utopia Planeta" Starship sourcebook* for the Starfleet Adventures TTRPG identifies the "Warp Delta" as the DX-class and the Intrepid-type as the FX-class.

The Arctic Transport is another ship that is giving me "Earth Military" vibes. We know it was separate from Starfleet in this era. I can easily picture a M.A.C.O. version of this thing. Like a Gunship version of a Huey with weapon pods attached.

~ I've always liked the Sarajevo - it's one of my favourite ENT era ships (along with the Vulcan ships). It does remind me of the Decepticon Scourge from Transformers: The Movie, though...

Nice to see a thread dedicated to these! I didn’t really vibe with Enterprise’s CGI ship designs when the show was originally airing, but years later when Eaglemoss started putting these out as models, they quickly became some of my favorites. For some reason whenever they released a ship from Enterprise it usually ended up being one of their best made models with the most interesting and intricate details.

Apart from the NX-01 (both the original one and the “refit”, which I sometimes feel I’m the only one like it), I have a real soft spot for the Intrepid, that’s already been posted.

And also the SS Conestoga, which might look a little bulky, but for some reason has that sense of realism about it. That command center section looks so damn cool …

I love the Conestoga. There's a part of me that wishes all the early Starfleet shops had that same bulky, thrown together look.

Don't forget the Emmette!

Who could forget? I love it with all those beautiful old style engines. I ove looking for design lineage between ships and the Emmette is a beautiful step towards what we finally see with the Delta.

So perhaps we can extrapolate that the Sarajevo's class is NC?
It certainly makes sense for the era. So we can extrapolate Earth has at least 27 of these things. I still like my idea that they are Earth Military. The entirely different style of Nacelles, the somewhat aggressive look. Hell, when the NX-01 made it back to Earth, one of these was the first one to interpret Enterprise.

One of the inherent problems with ENT's almost non-existent world-building was that Earth's space force was still called 'Starfleet,' yet there seemed to be no 'Starfleet Academy' or any other military training school. Archer and Trip seemed to be nothing more than test pilots. Where exactly did they, Reed, Mayweather, etc. get their credentials and ranks from? Was 'Starfleet' basically a branch-off of the U.S. Navy, but now with space vessels along with sea vessels? Did Archer go to the Naval Academy?

Having just checked Memory Alpha, apparently there is some mention of a "Space Academy" in Storm Front Part II and some mention of it on a plaque in Picard season 2.

Guess I know what I'm watching tonight...

Ok. I never saw 'Storm Front,' so if there was a reference to an academy there I wouldn't have known it.
