Do you feel bad knowing Sam Kirk's fate?

I can see why Berman would think that makes sense but in reality it is pretty easy to tell them apart. Romulans express emotions and Vulcans try and not to. Plus things like uniforms and ships sort of give it away.

Funny thing is it actually might make more sense today than it did back then. Say what you will about Picard and really modern Trek in general but I do like how aliens no longer all need the same haircut and matching outfits. A diversity in appearance is nice.

One does not do it because it is necessary. One does it because they can. Kind of like TNG giving Romulans bumpy foreheads.
Indeed, yes.

There seems to be this idea that decisions in art are always logical. They are not, but based upon what looks good or sounds good to the creative team.

For me, it is a dark comedy. Yes it sucks, but at the same time, it is not a problem that SNW should really grapple with in a direct fashion. Outside of making him more of a character and using him as a secondary character, of course of course.
