Discovery/Kelvin Crossover

Syd Shanshala

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
After binging discovery and following that with all 3 Kelvin movies, I think they really complement each other in good ways and bad ways. Anyone else feel a crossover between these 2 universes could work really well? How would it play out?

It'd be cool, but due to the CBS/Paramount split they're supposedly not allowed to crossover in any way.

Still, they practically did in "Lethe" which gave more backstory and context to Spock's "Live long and prosper!" FU to the Vulcan Science Academy in ST'09.

I’m hoping for a comic crossover as well, because IDW holds publishing rights for both franchises. In the Stamets one-shot, imagery from the Kelvin timeline was reused.

Stories are not just about “Let’s do this cool thing!”, they have to be character based. This crossover has the potential for character drama, as we could find out how the lack of a Klingon war and mutiny affect Burnham’s life, for example.

a crossover between these 2 universes
1) You mean they're separate universes now?
2) Sure, it could be fun. A visit to the multi-universal nebula.
3) Exchange Burnham for someone less annoying, and more interesting.

Well yes. If you pay attention to the story, but don't pay attention to what is said off-screen.
What was said off-screen that makes Disco and Kelvin the same universe?
Both the Abrams-universe and the DIS-universe are more technologically advanced than the TOS-universe.
True, but it doesn't make them the same universe.

The way Disco approached the Mirror Universe episodes, with Stamets' line about "seeing all of them" (paraphrasing here) in reference to all the timelines, and using the phrase "Multiverse" more than once, made me feel like that Disco is leaving it open for more crossover with other timelines. It would be tricky for legal purposes, but I'd love to see some sort of crossover.

They're the same universe as far as I can tell.

Agreed! If for no other reason than the similarity between Kelvin Klingons and Discovery Klingons! The DSC universe and the Kelvin one are too dissimilar to TOS to be believed technology and story wise! They can't be the same reality!

Already happened in Star Trek Online. Problem was at the time I was using a Vengeance ship so it wasn’t that much different. :)

They should be more advanced.
Given the rate of exponential advancements and returns (not including faster than exponential developments and returns), events of Trek would need to be reclassified in the timeline to fit them into a much earlier setting.
The 24th century Federation should have been exploring other galaxies, have a bunch of Dyson Swarms in operation throughout Federation space (easily around every memeber species star, with colonies having automation doing theirs, etc., though in fairness, NX-01 era Humans should have had one under construction already) and a bunch of other things... heck, nanotechnology would be in prominent use by the 22nd century easily considering its about to become as such by 2030-ies at the very latest.

Trek needs updating.

The JJVerse is certainly more advanced. The Discovery verse is up to debate. Sure they seem to use holo communications that shouldn’t be around for another 150 years or so but other tech isn’t so clear cut. We really didn’t get a good look at how fast their warp is here. The weaponary I think is on the level it should be except for those pulse phasers. There should have proper phasers at this time.

Sure they can.

Trek needs updating.
Indeed. This much is very much true to me. There is so much Trek tech that has been left behind and I think it would be fun to explore broader implications of current technological innovations, rather than belaboring how overused the transporter is in Star Trek.
