Detmer & Ariam

Mayweather had a couple episodes that focused on his character.

As did Kim. I think Kim had more.
But to be fair, Kim had three seasons more ;)

Still, Kim had probably unporportionally more episodes dedicated to him than mayweather. I can really only remember "Shuttlepod One" and the two or so final episodes where his ex-girlfriend was spying for someone or whatever.

Y'know what? I just realized that "Shuttlepod One" had nothing to do with Mayweather! It was Reed and Trip trapped in the shuttle. Time to go to bed!

They weren't used for anything beyond minimal bridge exposition.

Sounds like you missed all the Kim & Mayweather-focused episodes, and I am EXTREMELY jealous of you for that. I don't understand how Mayweather's big family drama episode ("Horizon") is not on every Worst Trek Ever list with "Threshold", "Spock's Brain", "Shades Of Grey", "Profit & Lace", etc. It's the end of the second season, they understood his range by then, and they wrote him a big scene where he's crying over the death of his father! How the hell could they have imagined he was capable of pulling that off?

As an aside, it kinda bothers me that Detmer doesn't grow out her hair to partially cover her implant. I mean, I know the showrunners did it for rule of cool, but in like 99% of cases if you ended up with a big implant on the side of your head you'd try to hide it with hair, rather than accentuate it by keeping the area shaven.

In the 23rd Century, people have evolved beyond caring about such things.

Yep, plus I'm assuming that from time to time she has to check on her implant and growing hair over it seems a bit impractical.

I would imagine they destroyed the hair follicles in the area surrounding the implant as well. At that point, you might as well define the look yourself and be comfortable with it. She certainly has no reason to be ashamed of the implant.

I pity the fool who doesn't respect the rule of cool!

I really like Detmer's look. Glad they didn't go with the second, larger prosthetic shown in those production sketches though; that's slipping a bit too much into Borg territory. Her haircut reminds me of the cool cut that Natalie Dormer sported in "Mockingjay."

She looks like the live action version of Stewie Griffin from Family Guy... :/

I don't think Detmer and friends will get any focus or character development. They are glorified extras basically. I think there's a good chance some of them will be killed off or used as canonfodder for the upcoming season to advance Burnham's development.
