Detmer & Ariam

In the Discovery MU comics, MU Airiam identifies herself as human. Gives a big speech about even though she is human, she has always been treated as a second-class citizen by the other Terrans because of her cybernetic implants. It's written by Kirsten Beyer, they've made that ridiculous "it's canon unless we think of a better idea to contradict it on the show later!" claim. But I think that's the most recent info on how the writers currently conceive of her.

Which drives me nuts! Airiam has a cool look and I'm interested to learn more about her, but it's such a core tenant of Trek that humans have just decided to be humans. If you want to blow that up by introducing halfway-to-Borg humans, do it thoughtfully and for a compelling story reason! In this case it's obvious they just had a cool visual and ran with it without thinking it through.
I didn't really approve of the cyborg but maybe Airiam is from Cygnet XIV, whose engineers upgrade the computer in Tomorrow is Yesterday and play a joke on Kirk.

Now, this is the kind of deep-cut Trek reference I LOVE. :bolian:
