David Kimble TMP Blueprints Question

Sibyl

Caffeine Pill Popper
Rear Admiral
I would love to know people's opinions on the TMP Blueprints by David Kimble as to how accurate they are to the studio models, especially the Refit and K'Tinga.

My ultimate goal, of course, is a studio-scale Refit, but I have another project in mind for the masterpiece that is the Refit.

Off hand I do not possess an opinion as I have, to my knowledge, never encountered them before. Sorry.

To the Refit, they are beautiful and an idealized set of plans based off of the original construction blues- but for accuracy, they vary quite a bit from the actual model. Jim Slade's blueprints here are probably your best resource for getting accurate lines and proportions for what was actually built. The K't'inga also varies quite a bit with the blues (notably for the lack of under-main-hull disruptor cannons with struts, and the R2-D2 Foot mounted aft disruptor cannons near the shuttlebay, but for overall proportions and lines it is fine.

It's been ages since I've pulled mine out and spread them on the ground, so I don't remember a lot of the exact details but thank you. I knew that the drawings were done AFTER the model was built, and for some reason, I'd thought Sternbach did them, but I didn't know exactly how faithfully they'd followed the actual model.

Thank you for the link. I'll be checking those out, definitely.

I'm sure there are inaccuracies. But I used them to build a 3D model of the Long Range Shuttle, and I think it came out OK.

I can't tell you how many times I've thought about doing the Surak and the travel pod, but I always wanted to do the Big E first. I make some half-ass attempts at starting the engines in the past, but they were, at the time, beyond my abilities.

Thanks Scribble! Those are some Sexy blueprints!

The Surak is such a beautiful design...I cannot say it enough. I did a sketch of a ship, (think I called her Sphinx-class) that used the Surak's nacelle config and general style with a miranda-esque saucer.
I'll post it in another thread if you're interested.

One of the concepts either for the TMP workbees or a TNG workbee-like craft was called a Sphinx, too. :) I'll see if I can find a sketch.

Ah, the Sphinx. I remember catching a brief glimpse of a drawing when Entertainment Tonight discussed the (at the time) yet to debut new series. I thought, "What a cool evolution of the 'work bee' concept!" Alas, it never made it beyond the conceptual drawings and instead, in the second season we got that boxy shuttle "pod" that looked more a child's backyard playhouse.

Oh! For some reason I was thinking that it was prints for the 1/350 or something...then I read the dimensions...definitely the studio model.

Thanks!

Finally figured out the coordinates for the Slade plans. NOW I get it. Duh.

I have a couple of pressing projects to get done, but this one will come, soon. I plan on creating physical models at various sizes to match some other kits from some other franchises (well, mostly Star Wars).

Has Big Jim Slade done any other plans for other ships, by chance? Would love to see his take on the Reliant or other movie craft and stations.

I'd love to see a laser scan lifted blueprit of the actual filming model--Bezos has that now.

It's a crime how it's being displayed. :censored:

Big Jim has already said that he will NOT share his CAD or vector files, but he is willing to answer questions, which I fully intend to do. :)

So I am using Big Jim's prints, but I'm also using a bunch of other resources that don't seem to be available publicly. Sorry, I'm not allowed to share those. :(

Here's where I am, so far. Unfortunately, life has been throwing blockade after blockade at my time.
