"Chain Of Command"

Star Trek made an effort, though fundamental limitations on showing pain to a spectator apply. Pain is always experienced in the now because there's no memory of it.
That must be a memory limitation possessed only by you. I can re-experience painfully injuries from my past though my memories, the pain is just as sharp. The memory of breaking my ankle a few years ago is particularly vivid.

I hated that character! He was so snarky and kind of a dick to be frank lol.
I find Jellico to be an interesting contract to Picard. It was Jellico that started me wondering just how common, how widespread, Picard's displayed philosophy was among other Starfleet officers. When you look at Captains like Jellico, Sisko, Maxwell, Admirals like Ross and Nechayev, Picard really seems to be the odd man out.

Ok wait you've lost me on this one--I don't see how Sisko and Ross (from what we've seen of him) are like Jellico; neither takes his cold, use-people-like-plug-and-play-machines approach to command. The others do to lesser degree, but if we subtract out Sisko and Ross it becomes harder to generalize.

Jellico is unbelievably unlikable and coldly abrasive, by design; but I do remember that at the time, years ago when this showed for the first time, I found myself hoping we'd see more of him, although I knew there would be very little repeat business among episodes. His character was refreshing, a successful captain with wins to his credit (we see one) who is a total a-hole, especially to our regulars. That's really what we're talking about. And in small doses it's cool to watch. I liked seeing the smugly effective Enterprise command crew knocked out of their comfort zone.
