Captain Marvel (2019)

The fact that they are calling her Capt. Marvel makes me think we'll probably just see a take on her current Capt. Marvel costume.

Just exploring. I'm not married to the idea. :)

I pivoted from NASA, because NASA isn't what it used to be.

If Carol is getting her powers off a leaking alien/alien technology, NASA hasn't been about manned flight for years. So if we actually want her in an earthmade ship, maybe have Danvers working for a new billionaire, Stark, China or S.H.I.E.L.D which will actually propel this woman physically at an alien encounter like a hero more so than an abducteee?
^Our world's NASA may be struggling, but I think that in a world where there's been two alien invasions in as many years they might just have gotten a budget increase.

Even so, she needn't actually be in space for whatever (possibly Kree related) crazy thing happens to her.
Indeed, we know from AoS that NASA has had it's hands on at least one Kree artefact in the past, perhaps they still have another? It's possible they don't even know they have it since the two or three Hydra agents that actually knew what it was have since been imprisoned and/or killed, so it's just misfiled under "meteor fragments" until Carol comes across it and sets it off.

Another possibility is that she's on the ISS, some spacey wibbly thing happens and she's the only survivor. Think 'Gravity' but with less George Clooney and more surviving re-entry without even a spacesuit, waking up in a smoking crater and wondering what the hell just happened.

I had hoped that Katheryn Winnick would get the role. We may never know if she even got to read for it. She's 38 and would thus be more credible as a USAF officer with a lot of years in the military. But her age probably worked against her, in the eyes of the studio.

If this is meant to be a bigger ongoing role in a lot of movies, it might have been hard to work around her schedule for Vikings.

All those fake slingshots still supposedly taking alien hardware into that sun are maybe still decades from reaching the sun.

I doubt it. Depends on the delta-V of course, but if you use the various out-system probes that went on a heliocentric orbit (Voyager, Pioneer, New Horizons etc.) as a rough guide, you could easily get a payload to the sun in four or five months and that's being fairly conservative.

Brie Larson
I'm not sure I've seen her in anything looking through her IMDB Filmography. Heard the name before but that's all.
Was she in the final Yahoo! TV season of Community that I didn't see? If not I don't recall her when I saw the network episodes.
I do plan to see Kong next year.
Can someone recommend a few choice movies where she's a standout/breakout character? Thanks.

Its not a movie, but watch her in The United States of Tara. She plays the daughter and really shines, especially in the second season. She hasn't had many lead roles that I can recall, other than Room.

EDIT: This won't be her first time playing a super hero:

There was a subplot in season two (or was it three?) where her character decides to make money from fanboys by creating a new super hero for them to buy merchandise of.

Assuming they keep it simple, and have her actual Air Force rank be Captain (rather than the comics' Major/Colonel), then a younger actress makes much, much more sense. If you're still a Captain at age 38, you're a screw up or a not-quite-washout.

Never mind that TV already has a blonde woman named Danvers, flying about, and dressed in blue and red.

I was actually wondering to myself earlier about how they'll introduce the name and the outfit and make it make sense.

Having her actually be an USAF Captain would certainly take care of part of it, but what about the "Marvel" name and (assuming they go with the comic book design) the funky outfit?

A possible clue could be that this movie will come out between the two Infinity Wars movies. I've been speculating for a while now that the gap between the movies will play out in real time. And by that I mean that instead of Part 2 picking right up wherever Part 1 leaves off, a whole year will pass between the events of the two movies.

So what if by the end of part 1, the Avengers leave Earth altogether? Maybe of their own accord, maybe not. Maybe those left behind on Earth are left to assume they're either all dead or lost.
So perhaps part of the plot of 'Captain Marvel' will be her single-handedly trying to fill the role of Earth's one and only Avenger?
Maybe under the Accords, the world's governments (or maybe just the US) try the same "branding" tactic they used on War Machine with that whole 'Iron Patriot' shtick.

So rather than being a Kree inspired uniform (which doesn't make much sense in the context of the MCU) it's a Captain America inspired uniform? And the codename is a reference to cap (she can still be an actual captain of course.)
Not sure where "Marvel" might fit into it unless they somehow manage to squeeze Mar-Vell in there somewhere. Perhaps in an Abin Sur type role.

I was actually wondering to myself earlier about how they'll introduce the name and the outfit and make it make sense.

I'm sure the writer(s) will come up with something. Hell, just in thinking about it for five minutes, I came up with a potentially plausible explanation for both the uniform and the codename that is simple, if not terribly clever.

Carol is a pilot. Make her call sign Marvel. She's a Captain. Ergo, she's Captain Marvel. She's test piloting an experimental space plane or fighter or shuttle or whatever (also another potential source for the "Marvel" name, it could be the name of the craft). The uniform is some kind of experimental space suit, or a flight suit that allows a pilot to survive extreme g-force or something. Dumb? Maybe, but easy. Also, no doubt totally not how they'll do it in the film.

I've been kind of assuming that they'll actually try to work in some of the Kree ideas somehow, which opens all kinds of doors for the source of her powers, name, and uniform. Maybe even include some version of Mar-vell, perhaps as a mentor figure as you suggest.

I was looking for the Black costume from the 1970s, but this is WONDERFUL!

This timeline looks like it was brought to us by Rockettes.

The relationship between Mar-Vell and carol can be ignored, cinematically Vell is just another blonde white guy, even if back home he's a racial minority (most Kree are blue) ...but what about Kamala Khan, the new/current Ms Marvel?

In theory Kamala could be big some day, but she can't be a legacy hero if there is no "Marvel" legacy to take up ,if Carol has only been on the job for 5 minutes.

The Air Force Officer angle is good, she's a veteran, but Carol was also a reporter for the Daily Bugle. if we skip to the end, would the character be allowed to overlap-on/use the Bugle sets from Spider-Man Homecoming and Spider-Man II?

Sony and Marvel are really friendly, right?
Frankly, the Bugle aspect of her backstory feels odd and out of place. Air Force Colonel, Secret Agent, head of NASA Security, writer?

So, I watched the prequel movie last night, "Room". I did NOT like all the changes they made to the character. Carol Danvers' back story is NOTHING like that in the comics!!!:mad::mad:
I also watched The Room. I have no idea how that movie got a nomination for Best Picture. I didn't see Brie Larson, though, just some guy named Tommy Wiseau.

Carol vs. J Jonah Jameson, just saying.

I'm reading that Jk Simmons is still interested in coming back. :)

I also saw the name Hugh Laurie speculatively mentioned. ;)

A weird thing on Voyager is that apparently during/after the battle of Wolf 359, the Borg sent "prisoner transports" back to the Delta Quadrant full of captured and assimilated Federation citizens, before the Cube was shut down, and then destroyed near Earth.

The Chitari are an end around on Kree for some reason, not sure why since Agents of SHIELD talks about the Kree all the time.... Kevin Feige says that the Kree and Skrulls are a shared property as long as Fox holds the rights tot he Fantastic Four. So what if fighter pilot Captain Danvers wound up on the other side of the galaxy after the battle of New York, derived super powers from Iron Man blowing up the Chitari fleet, meets the Guardians, and finally gets home between Avengers 3 part one and part 2?

I do like the idea of Marvel being her air force call sign. :)

Saw this about Amazing Spider-Man 2 while looking into who is JJJ this time around. (Still uncast.)

Was Mary-Jane Watson going to be in this film?
Shailene Woodley had been cast to play Mary-Jane Watson, but all of her scenes were removed from the final film. It was decided her character was not essential to this story.

She is on the DVD extras, or locked in a vault?

Except in carol's origin they point out that she is the youngest security chief NASA has had.

I think the Chitauri were used instead of the Kree because they didn't want to introduce the Kree so early, or in a way that had them invading Manhattan right off the bat. The Chitauri were basically designed to be disposable and not massively influence the direction of the story.

I was under the impression that the Chitauri were a substitute for the Skrulls not Kree; with the name coming from their 'Ultimates' incarnation.

I'd be very disappointed if they don't bring back JK Simmons. He was easily the best thing about the old Rami Spider-Man movies. It'd be a bit weird having him as both JJJ and Jim Gordon, but I think we could adjust. ;)
