Best Start Trek Character poll results - IGN

I think it's a good poll for showing what order people like the characters within a series and it may provide an indication of how many people have seen each series, but it's pretty obvious that the characters from the new shows are getting demolished in the rankings because people just don't know them. I mean Tilly is 30 places below Chakotay. They ranked Doctor T'Ana below Porthos, Wesley Crusher and Hawk from First Contact.

A disappointing showing from Spot (#53), pipped at the post by Savior Of All The Things Michael Burnham (#52). Kudos though to Porthos (#60) for hanging in there, managing to just beat out Neelix.

Special shout out to everyone's favorite perma-ensign Harry Kim, managing to solidify a spot above anyone from the NuTrek stables.

I notice while pets were included, DS9's supporting cast was not. I reckon Garak would've easily placed in the top 30.

Worf beat Kirk? Hmm.

I don’t even remember who Hawk is!

You can find a million different polls with a million different results. But I’m not surprised the new shows don’t fare well in terms of name recognition — they’re behind a pay wall on a B streaming service.

The DSC characters are about where I expect them. They're not outdoing most TOS, TNG, and DS9 characters. That's just the way it is. So they did okay under the circumstances.

Some of where who ends up where is a little odd, but that has nothing to do with DSC. More like, "You put X character over Y? Come on, really?!"

Prodigy is the one that fared the worst, which is too bad. I like all the characters on that show.

That list. They lost me at Geordi LaForge being number 7. Above anyone from DS9 (Worf excepted). I mean…really?! Levar Burton is charismatic, but the character is bland, had not a hint of a discernible arc and his creepiness with women is the stuff of legend. That list is worthless.

(edit: I read on… Beverly fricking Crusher a better character than Odo or Kira?! The end is nigh)

TNG is, without hesitation, my ruling number one series. With that said... yeah, no way is Dr. Crusher more interesting than Odo. Like. Not even close.

It's unfortunate to see that most who voted never really gave some of the newer shows a chance. Gwyn from Prodigy I find endlessly fascinating, for example.

Beverly Crusher barely had a personality; she was just kind of there. Odo is one of the most compelling, conflicted and three dimensional characters of the franchise —and played by one of its finest actors, may he rest in peace. I love TNG but the DS9 characterisation was a world apart.

I guess these polls simply reflect which shows were most popular/had the biggest audience. Over here, the “most popular Doctor Who” is always won by David Tennant, and I think that’s largely because his run had by far the biggest viewership in the UK. I think Matt Smith and Peter Capaldi were both far better, but their eras didn’t have the same viewership, hence they’ll never top the polls.

That in mind, it’s no surprise that the characters of Discovery and the newer Trek shows haven’t got a look-in in such polls, given that they are on Paramount+ rather than network or syndication. Only subscribers will even know they exist.

Tuvok should be #1. He also strangled Neelix, who is a few people's most #2 character?

IDK how they decided on this list.

Hawk was only in FC and never received much if any development (definitely less than the LD cast, Book & Culber), while Carol Marcus (Kelvin) and Jaylah are omitted even though they were more developed and also in one film each?

Pulaski on the list while being only around for a single season, but Major Hayes is not even though he was also only around for a single season, and one of the highlights of ENT’s S3.

Garak isn’t doesn’t make the list despite being a recurring character like Guinan, and despite being one of the most interesting characters the franchise has ever produced. But Spot, Porthos and Grudge do make the list, and in the case of Spot finishes well ahead of almost all of the main characters of the new shows sans Pike, Saru, Spock & Burnham. :cardie:

I've sent the link to myself and will check it on my home computer where it's not blocked, though with all the Star Trek characters over the years I'm sure I'll never agree with it and it'll just angry up the blood.

That's a pretty fucked up list. I'm no Disco fan but putting Harry Kim above all NuTrek contenders is completely out of whack.

Porthos and Hawk? check. Garak? Nope.

I couldn’t read the whole list. It was generating a severe case of nerd rage in me!
