ANOVOS - My Unfortunately Terrible Experience

I've always admired the costumes that ANOVOS produces. Everything seems to be very high quality. And I understand that it takes some time to produce these uniforms - and also that some uniforms, like their "standard line" are in more typical sizes and are supposedly in stock for quick shipping.

I ordered a TNG-era standard line command uniform at Christmas (2015) (the one that's supposed to be in stock). I'm on the edge between XL and XXL but I order the latter because of the waist measurement and I hope it'll fit right. A week or two goes by with no shipping. Okay, well, it's the holidays; things take forever and ANOVOS is a small company. Another week goes by and I start seeing posts on the Facebook page about people who've received the same uniform I ordered (in a smaller size) - but who ordered after I did. Okay, that's annoying; time to open a trouble ticket. Got a quick response, that they were following up with their distribution center. Fine.

A week goes by - no update. Two weeks go by - no update. I ask again for an update both times - no update. Finally I resort to posts on their Facebook page, which finally provides a response of "we oversold it because of a website error; we're checking to see if we have more." Me: thank you, I understand things like that happen.

Middle of February: We found some but the shipping guy is off; we'll let you know later this week.

Later that week: silence. Next week: silence. I ask for an update. This week: silence.

In the interim, all sizes except small have sold out from the website and the tunic's been discontinued. Fairly certain that the XL was still in stock when they first told me that the XXL had oversold.

At this point, I'm really very annoyed with ANOVOS. I understand that things happen; shipping takes forever; things get sold out; they're overwhelmed with the Star Wars merchandise; on and on and on. I don't like being misled and I don't like people promising they'll get to me by a certain date and then not responding well after that date has passed. I'm also annoyed that I could have possibly switched to a small size and still gotten this uniform. At this point I think I just want my money back. Getting a uniform from ANOVOS was something I'd looked forward to since I started cosplaying, as everyone I've seen with one loves it, but at this point, pretty sure I won't be ordering from ANOVOS again. I'm sure I'm now on some "very annoying customer" list anyways. :p

Please feel free to tell me that I'm being unreasonable/entitled as well. :D
 
It's perfectly reasonable to expect to receive an order within a sensible amount of time.

If I was getting the runaround like that, I would definitely demand a refund. And if they were slow on acknowledging the refund request, I would contact my credit card company and have them cancel the charge.

Agreed. Has anyone checked the Better Business Bureau about them; you can report them if you feel that and it's good to document what Anovos has said to you. It's unfortunate you had to through that. Are there other companies who replicate Star Trek tunics and uniforms?
 
I usually use PayPal when I buy online. If I haven't got the items after 31 days I usually contact the seller telling them if I don't hear from them by a certain date I will open up a dispute through PayPal. If I do hear from them I tell I will tell them if I do not have the product by day 40 I will start up the dispute. If I don't have it by day 45 I escalate the dispute to a claim but I have only ever done that once.
 
I'll definitely be filing some kind of claim if they don't get back to me soon. If this was a custom measured uniform I'd understand the delay....but not for a premade uniform they supposedly had in stock and certainly not for something they've admitted is out of stock.
 
By a quick scan of their Instagram and Facebook pages, I would suggest your experience is fairly typical unfortunately. Or at least not uncommon. I have an order in with them too which is taking ages (not quite as long as yours yet...). My impression is that they are too small a business for the volume of projects they take on, and they struggle to maintain customer service as a result.
In fairness, my experience of Cosplay generally has been 'Prepare To Wait'. A quick service business it is not. Particularly absurd when it's stuff that's allegedly in stock and ready to go but it does seem to be the standard.
 
Their stuff is displayed for sale at Disney in both Hollywood Studios and California Adventure, in Star Wars Launch Bay. It's a combination of museum and Meet & Greet, where you can meet Chewbacca, Kylo Ren and Stormtroopers. I know they have a ton of orders from these locations, its discussed on several Disney boards. So I agree that they are probably overwhelmed. Yet that doesn't excuse the poor communication, I feel your pain. I would keep hammering them with polite Emails and if need be, a phone call or two.
 
They claim they've found more in my size and will be shipping it out. We'll see.
