American Idol

I didn't expect Syesha to get this far. I'm not saying she's awful, but Carly Smithson had more charisma, but look what happened to her. I was leaning toward Paula's predictions over a month ago when she said the top four would consist of Carly, Michael Johns, David A., and David Cook. At least she got two of them right.

The Top Three Finalists - I didn't really see anything spectacular about their performances tonight, but Archuleta and Cook stood out as usual.

I thought the judges were a bit harsh on Syesha. Paula kept ranting on about how Syesha's songs didn't define her as an artist. :wtf: And yet these contestants are being encouraged to explore the different ranges of their vocal talent. How exactly do you do that? By trying different songs, right? I thought Syesha's "Fever" song was solid although Simon called it a "lame cabaret performance."

At this point in the competition, it's obvious who's going to come out the winner; Cook and Archuleta are going to be battle each other next week.

Well, overall I think this is another boring season of American Idol. I really don't want to bash the show because there are some parts of it that are enjoyable, but while we had an awesome Survivor finale the other night, here we have American Idol just going through the motions and almost crawling to the finish line. These performences weren't spectacular tonight like they should be and I don't understand David A. He's alright, but I was really hoping Idol this season would come back to being legitament and produce a singer like Kelly or Carrie Underwood. I don't see that happening with any of these three. If David A wins, all the young teenagers will get his stuff and he will be played on Radio Disney. If David C wins, he might be played on Radio but I doubt it. If Seyesha wins, that might be the biggest upset in American Idol history. I typically don't watch the results show (They are boring and it's great getting them at about 7:00) but I will watch the Tuesday show next week. I'll even watch them award the crown but seriously, is there anything in this season that has truely stood out? I was really hoping for something this season, hell I wasn't even going to watch. I only started because my family told me that this season had contestents with promise. At a time I believed that. However, they're getting old and nothing is standing out.

As for tonight, I think David C was the best. None of them really stood out, but I hope David C wins because I think he might have more mainstream success than the other two.

David C definately would have more commercial success than the other two...though David A would definately appeal to the Disney crowd.

It'll be a David showdown for sure

Archuleta hasn't impressed me since "Imagine" - he's good, for sure, but I hope the winner is one of the other two.

David Cook impresses us every week. He's cool and he's pretty consistant in his power vocal. His "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" was masterful and I'm glad Simon chose it - a shame he couldn't perform the whole thing, though. He deserves to be where he is right now.

Syesha was BORN to perform on stage - she's adorable and completely comfortable up there with seemingly perfect vocals. She is completely entertaining. The criticism she received last night (particularly by Simon) left me baffled. I don't think I've ever disagreed with him MORE  even though I think he tries to "keep it real" most of the time.

Still wish Carly was still in it. Final 3 should have been Carly, David C. and Syesha ;)

Well, you're not alone in your sentiments. According to an MSNBC article I read weeks ago, this Idol season isn't doing so well as far as audience appeal and ratings. Part of it is due to the lack of contemporary songs (within the past ten years) that younger viewers can really relate to. Look at the mentors: Dolly Parton, Neil Diamond, Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber.

I agree with SPOCKED - Carly should have been in the Top Three.

I think I read that same article. I also read an Article in MSNBC before the season started and they pretty much said what I had said about the legitimacy of it all.

As for tonight's results show, thank god I didn't see it. Everyone knew it was coming and they spent a full hour getting there. Hopefully the show on Tuesday is at least decent.

You called it. It's David C. vs. David A.

It was nice to see the video montage done on each of the final three when they went back to their home towns. You could see in their reactions to EVERYTHING that each one of them truely appreciated the fans that put them where they are.

Yea, the "home town" videos did cement that David A's fan base is mostly girls and young women (the 10 - 16 year old range, with their mom's in tow). David C's appeal seemed to be to a larger, more diverse group. It will be very interesting to see how this shakes out. Either way, I think both David's will make it in the industry appealing to different groups and tastes. Syesha has had enough exposure that she'll do fine too. David C's going to win, but at this point, with all the exposure, all three can make a go of it in the industry.

As a side, was I the only one sitting through Fantasia's performance thinking "How the frakin' hell did she win Idol?" Her performance, if you could call it that, was like nails on a chaulkboard. I actually had to leave the room and went to get something from the 'frig.....

Q2UnME

You weren't the only one, that was awful.

And hoping D.C. wins it, as he's got a lot more mainstream talent, but D.A. seems to have survived a lot of bad nights with lots of teenaged girl votes, so who knows?

:D

Ya...Fantasia was horrid...even Simon looked like WTF? I couldn't make out one word she was saying :wtf:

David Cook is just too cool for words...and deserves the win IMO...I just hope he gets to choose the style/arrangement of the songs on his first album

...wondering what this year's "Idol song" will be...

I like David C's style better. To me he seems like he could be a real performer, maybe write his own songs or form a successful band while Archuletta is all voice and will just put out the same kind of album every winner does. People may love David A's voice, but how many would really buy his album of crappy songs? Seems like Cook can pull more of a Daughtry number.

I knew Fantasia was horrid in her season. She might be the most overrated Idol winner ever.

I don't know what the frakkin' hell happened during Season III to have a substandard performer like Fantasia end up as the American Idol winner, let alone have Diana DeGarmo as the runner-up. It wasn't the greatest season; it was what turned me off from watching the subsequent seasons. It was pretty clear Jennifer Hudson and LaToya London (a Bay Area native, I might brag) had light-years more talent than Fantasia or Diana.

America is getting the votes right this season. Regardless of who wins this week, he is deserving of the title. That's all I have to say.
