American Idol

Yeah David A sucked!

Chikezie was great.

David C destroyed a song I love.

David H didn't stop about his stripping job. :(

I didn't get to see the early performances, but overall, I think David Cooke, Syesha, and Carly, had the best vocals of the night.

David Cooke - I didn't like this guy at first (Looks like a bum; a bit overconfident), but he was one of the best performers on tonight's show. My rating: A-

Brooke White and Michael Johns - They were both ... just okay. My rating: B

David Hernandez - His performance was a bit overdone to the point of looking silly (and he did look silly with his choice of outfit). My rating: C-

Amanda Overmyer - I don't mind the Goth look, and I'm willing to overlook the country white-trash image, but this was the first time I'd heard her sing. Her voice is a bit shrieky; she sounds a bit like Rachel Ray's from the Food Network. :cardie: Like Simon, I didn't understand much of the lyrics. My rating: F

Kristy Lee Cook - "Dolly Parton on helium," says Simon. :guffaw: It wasn't so much her voice; it was the performance itself, too rushed and all over the place. My rating: D

David Archuleta - This guy is human after all. Sure, contestants tend to forget the lyrics from time to time, but he was also pitchy in some areas. Nonetheless, he's still a teen heartthrob, and whether the competition is based on popularity or talent, he's got both. My rating: C

My Parents actually convinced me to give Idol another try because the Talent was that good, so here I am watching another season. The Talent has been pretty good so far so might as well stick around, at least until the finale when I don't need to see it because it's the night Idol's ego starts showing and it rubs me the wrong way. Also, I find if I mute Paula Abdul, Idol is a much better show.

As for the singers tonight:

The Best

Chikieze
Carly
Brooke

These three were great tonight. I didn't think Chikieze had that energy but he brought the house down. Unfortunately the next singer took all that energy and flung it out the window, but it was still a very fun performance. Carly looked like she had practiced Come Together because that was awesome. As for Brooke, Let it Be is probably my favorite Beatles song, and she was great on it. I love how they are allowed to play the instruments now because the Piano helped. The Band can get in the way too much sometimes.

Some other comments

David A - I don't think he is going to win the competition, but this performance should not get him eliminated yet. He was a bad performance, sure, but he has the likability factor. Still, tonight's song, that was awful.

Jason C - Last week I really liked him. This week, not so much.

Amanda O - I looked on VFTW last week and apparently she was the target. I don't think she is that bad actually, even though tonight's performance wasn't all that terrific. She was still great last week and I will have no ill will if she returns for another week.

As much as I hate to admit it, I think Kristie is going home tomorrow night. I like her story with the horses, but as a singer, I don't think she has it at this point. She's forgettable, and tonight's song was awful. I will be surprised if she isn't in the bottom 3 at least.

Sometimes the voting results are predictable (as in the case of Danny Noriega, Luke Menard, etc.), but sometimes they're quite surprising. Kristy Lee's country version of "Eight Days a Week" was just too weird. The adaptation just didn't fit, and her rendition wasn't any better.

David Hernandez was eliminated last week (03/12), and tonight (03/19) the overrated Overmyer didn't make it to the Top 10. Funny, I would've expected Ramiele Malubay or Kristy Lee Cook. It was even surprising to see Carly Smithson in the bottom three, but at least she was safe this week.

I'm glad Amanda is gone. So far America seems to have this voting right and there is no controversy. I kind of hope they go away from the Beatles next week though.

I think the judges, contestants, and the viewers have had enough of the Beatles already, not that I'm opposed to hearing more Beatles songs. It's just a lot of the songs are beyond some contestants' range of talent.

Brave my ass! That guy totally ripped off Chris Cornell's take on Billie Jean.

EDIT: Didn't notice that Seacrest said he was doing Cornell's version. Then again who listens to Seacrest? :)

I missed last night's performances. Who do you think will be eliminated this week? I guess we'll find out tonight ...

Personally, I'd kick off Michael Johns. I do not understand how the judges could have liked his performance last night. I thought he butchered the whole thing.

No way!!!!!!! I thought it was awesome!! I'm a huge Queen fan and when I could tell what song he was doing I was a bit nervous for him but I totally thought he nailed it! I love the whole Jim Morrison/Eddie Vedder thing he's got going on too....very sexy. :bolian:

I think either Ramielle (sp?) or Carly should go home.

Carly is this year's Jordin Sparks for me.....I seriously do not get all of the ass-licking that the judges are doing on her. I find her, at best, to be mediocre.

I guess it's just me then. I'm also a huge fan of Queen (and I don't have a problem with AI contestants doing their songs), but I really did not like Michael's performance last night.

As for Ramielle and Carly, I definitely think both of them are better then Michael. At the moment though, my favourite would have to be David Cook followed by Brooke White. And I really do not get all the hype about David Archuleta. Yes, he has a good (possibly even great) voice, but I actually think he's not really a great singer.

Agreed.

The last two weeks David C and Brooke has had some great performences, and even the week before I really loved Let it Be. I think they are slowly becoming the frontrunners even though the problem with this season is there really isn't a clear cut favorite. One week you have a great performance, but then the next week that singer isn't so great. The best example was Chikieze. Three weeks ago he had an awesome performence, but then he went Luther Vandross on us and it's kind of boring. I'm starting to think now that slowly but surely David is becoming the favorite. I too don't get the love for Archeleta and think he could be in the bottom 3 tonight. I think he can do ballads well but fast songs not so much.

^ The thing is, all the fifteen-or-so year-old girls seem to be going crazy over David A, so I doubt he's gonna be in the bottom three anytime soon.

I don't get the hype about Archuleta either. He's good but as the contest goes on, they should get better and IMO, he's getting worse.

I do really like Brooke a lot and David Cook too. I can't help but to smile when watching Brooke, she just seems so sweet and is really good too. I am generally very, very impressed when people play an instrument....I love the multi-talented thing.

I would definitely have trouble picking a favorite at this point.

I think it makes it more difficult to choose a clear-cut winner at this point also because the judges aren't choosing a clear-cut winner either...does that make sense? Like when Simon practically crowned Carrie Underwood in Hollywood Week, and you could just see it continuing week after week.

This season, they keep mixing it up. I used to think that Carly was their favorite, but after last night, who knows? And she was bottom 3 last week.

My pick for tonight? Kristy Lee- doesn't have the fan base that Ramiele does. Though Jason C. can go anytime, IMO.

At 17, D. Archuleta is still very young, and his vocals could still change and develop over time (more likely to his advantage many years from now). Having said that, I believe he has a competition in D. Cook or Syesha Mercardo (speaking of vocal talent). He has a lot of charisma and a big fanbase, and he takes a song and really gives it his own original rendition.

So who do you guys think is going home tonight? Based on this week's (and also last week's) performance, I'd say Ramiele is the most likely candidate.
