The New Star Trek

Rumors r goin around that the second reboot of star trek will be the wrath of khan. me personally they should do something completely different if they do remake Wrath of Khan i will be highly upset

I won't be upset. I'll just wonder why they bothered when Wrath of Khan was fine in its own right.

Wrath of Khan doesn't need to touched. If a previous film has to be remade, how about one that's deeply flawed like Final Frontier or Insurrection? A original script would be best.

Here we go again...here are my feet to be kissed yet again.

Those on this board know that I have been predicting a KHAN remake the moment they decided to reboot the series. The reasons are as logical as they were back when I said it back then. Its an easy sell to the general audience. KHAN is to us like DARTH VADER is to Star Wars.

I think, as good as Khan is, it can be made even better with a real budget and real SETS, instead of redressing the bridge set fifteen different times.

More importantly, for me, JJ has earned the right to do what ever he wants. Hardliners STILL hate XI, and good for them. They are the kind of fans that Paramount is ready to flush away, and I am too.

KHAN is coming, and its gonna rock and I cant wait.

So that's what the smell is! :rommie:

Or maybe it's the stench of yet another ridiculous internet rumor (sans even a link to an iffy fanboy blog? our standards are slipping!)

The general audience neither knows nor cares about who this "Khan" person is. They know Kirk-Spock-Enterprise and not much else. There's zero commercial value in dredging him up. If Abrams et al really insists on going that route, so be it. Hire Naveen Andrews and that's half the battle. But they'd have to be doing it because they love the idea - there's no other reason.

I'll take that as a kiss on my foot. Thanks..it felt good.

Agreed. There's no reason to rehash the old stories. Leave them as they are and go on with new ones.

Re-doing Khan??, you've got to be kidding me. Why re-do anything, Trek has done the prequel thing to death. We need to move the Franchise forward and inject some new material...

I need someone to take Nestor Carbonell's head and shop it onto Khan's body. I'd like to get an idea of that.

They can do a movie about Khan without directly "remaking" either "Space Seed" or TWOK. So no big deal, there.

Sure they CAN, but does that mean they MUST? Abrams did all of this to give Trek a fresh start. They shouldn't waste it by rehashing all the old stories and characters. Create new ones.

Having the second movie involving Khan would be a huge mistake for a number of reasons.

First, do they plan on re-doing the movie with Khan in it? If so, then wtf happened to the whole relationship between Khan and Kirk to the point where we all expect the hatred between the two?

If we're going way back to when Kirk met Khan and the antics that occured on that episode in TOS, then how do you expect to make it great enough to be a movie and not just episode worthy? How long does anybody expect to keep the audience's attention in a story that 90% of it all is based inside the Enterprise?

I never understood the hype over Khan.... sure he's a pretty good villian, but he wasn't really a re-occuring one was he? As far as I knew, he was only in one Star Trek Episode and then used as a prop for the second Star Trek movie.... then that's all we hear about Khan. Honestly, Star Trek dished out many more villians that were better and more threatening then Khan.

I'd much rather see a new villian for Kirk to deal with, that comes back from time to time.

I still prefer the original timeline, but like XI a lot. I hope we don't see Kahn, and no he is Darth Vader.

Okay. Let me start by saying that I love Star Trek. I really, really do. I remember sitting home as a six and seven year old watching TNG with my single mother. It was one of the things that the two of us got to do together as she would be working most of the time. To say I am a "die hard" Star Trek fan may be an understatement. I believe that, if cut, I would bleed blood that contained small Starfleet chevrons.

That said, I loved Star Trek (2009). I did. Kudos to J.J. and the gang. Really. I am so glad that they were able to remake Star Trek and actually make people care about it again.

It seems that the only people that didn't like the movie are... die hard Star Trek fans? Huh? That's right. Don't play coy with me Trekkies. I AM ONE OF YOU.

I'll say this once and once only: If you love Star Trek as you claim, if you have an old homemade uniform in the back of your closet, or if you have every piece of Star Trek merchandise known to man, you would watch anything Star Trek. If you didn't love it, you wouldn't have an account on this website. Would you?

So. STOP SAYING YOU WOULDN'T WATCH THE MOVIE IF IT HAS KHAN (and yes, it is Khan. Stop spelling it Kahn. Freakin' jackasses) IN IT. My point is that if this real Trekkie is actually clamoring to see Chris Pine versus Javier Bardem (oh yes, it'd have to be him) in Trek II, you should too. After all, it's not Star Trek's fault that you're a bunch of fat white guys that are afraid of change.

Thank you.

I meant to state that the reason behind saying this is that Star Trek gives me warm fuzzy feeling inside, consequently holding a place in my heart. Yet I am STILL okay with a continuity change.

It should be something where the federation is slowly falling apart. After the destruction of Vulcan, and the near destruction of Earth (both founding members), I can imagine many members being sceptical about Starfleet's ability to protect them, and therefore seeking for protection elsewhere, slowly weakening the Federation and giving Klingons and Romulans an opportunity to attack the Federation.

It could be a story where ideals, duty and politics face each other to determine the future of the Federation.

This being said, we'll possibly get another shallow action movie like the previous one.

Hey, I grew up with Star Trek too, I fell in love with Kirk at the tender age of five (but have moved on since then, thank god ;) ), I consider myself a "real" Trekkie - and I still wouldn't watch a movie with Khan. I didn't go to see Nemesis or Insurrection, so I'm pretty sure that I really will not go to see Khan AGAIN.

And, for the record, I'm neither male nor fat.

Personally from reading all the interviews that they've done...and albeit they've been few and far between talking about their plans for the sequel, one thing they have stated is that they opened themselves a new universe to play with. Anything is possible, and one of the things that they said they like is not being restricted by previous continuity. As well as they have stated they like Wrath of Khan I don't think we're going to see Khan and if they do use Khan...I'll still be seeing it just to see how they interpret them. Why does everyone just assume that we're going to see the same Khan? We already know from the movie that this timeline is considerably different from the Prime universe. Khan will be treated differently if he's indeed used.
