The New Star Trek

Man, we're stretching now. :rommie: Khan is more likely to be Indian, than, say, Eskimo or Hottentot. There's an actor of Indian ancestry who happens to be perfect for the role, so why not take advantage of that.

Bardem, eh. I just don't see it. Khan is not a laconic psycho killer. He's a charismatic egotist who manages to get presumably not-to-stupid people to follow him.

Then again, if Khan is whatever ancestry we care to make him, I've always wanted to see what Ben Browder can do with a villainous role. ;)

^I certainly am in hysterical fear! I don't want to see Khan! I want to see some messed-up Vulcan survivors trying to annihilate Romulus! Or a run-in with Orion slave traders. Or Andorians. Anything but Khan!

Khan is more likely to be Indian, than, say, Eskimo or Hottentot.

Given that he was played by a Mexican-born actor he's more likely to be hispanic than any of those. There's not going to be enough "backlash" to make a one-column report in the New York Post if he's not played by an Indian actor.

There won't be a backlash because the PC cowards in Hollywood won't risk any kind of controversy for no reason at all. And worrying about needing to hand an Indian role to a Mexican certainly qualifies as "no reason at all." :rommie:

Nobody cares that Montleban played Khan originally. That's the kind of thing that only matters on TrekBBS. Strictly for the crowd that cares about the color of the nacelles, while they people who make the decisions wouldn't know a nacelle from a tribble.

The real problem with Vin Diesel is that he's punk to Montelban's classical music, as it were. Khan is a prince and he knows it. Whoever they might get to play him in a putative Space Seed remake needs to be able to project that regalness...

How about Vin Diesel as Khan? :p

The only problem there is Vin Diesel would have to act Indian.

Why? Montalban didn't.

That was 1967. Back then, all you needed to play an Indian (or for that matter, Native American, Latino, Middle Eastern, etc.) was a large tub of pancake make-up. Accents or speech patterns were completely irrelevent. Star Trek was going out on a limb simply by casting someone not caucasian for the role...

Remember, this was only 11 years after Hollywood cast John Wayne as Genghis Khan...

Having the second movie involving Khan would be a huge mistake for a number of reasons.

First, do they plan on re-doing the movie with Khan in it? If so, then wtf happened to the whole relationship between Khan and Kirk to the point where we all expect the hatred between the two?

I agree with you. Also, having Khan would be too similar to Nero, in my opinion.
I would personally would like to see Klingons having a major role in the next film.
Klingons are important part of Star Trek and It would be cool to see how Abrams and others could make them seem familiar yet fresh, not to mention introduce the race to the new league of Star Trek fans.
Also, we dont know much of the political situation between the Klingon empire and the Federation.
Vulcan and Earth were portraited very well in latest film, and I would like finally see a big screen treatment given to the Klingon home world.

I would also like see a conference room set in the film and have the crew talk over some problem, all around the table. The scene may sound boring but at least it would be very traditional Trek scene.
