I honestly don't get the big deal with Brett Favre. Is he retiring? Isn't he? Who cares?

Then again, as a sports fan, I find football pretty boring. So that's my paradigm and it may inform my opinion.

I have nothing but respect for Favre. He seems to be one of the few people that still play simply for the love of the game. Sure he's not as good as he was a few years ago, but as long as he can still play, and more importantly wants to, i think he should. He's doing something he loves.

I'd be pissed if I was a Jets fan right now. Their best QB is now...Kellen Clemens?? I read they're looking for a veteran QB to fill the void and that Jeff Garcia's the top candidate, but I can't imagine that filling many Jets fans with a whole lot of confidence.

This is Favre's second retirement. He's nowhere near some of the others.

I'm a Jets fan, and I'd be more hurt if I hadn't expected more than one season from Favre. It was a one season thing--if they'd won a Super Bowl, Favre would have said "Awesome, I'm gone." If they'd made the playoffs and lost there, he would have said "Eh, I could have done worse. I'm gone." In this case, he fucked up bad, and decided to say "Screw this, I'm gone."
