Before they could do that they would have to cast a slew of acceptable lookalikes... That could take some doing.

Not to mention that they would have to dub them all with the voices of the voice actors.

They did definitely cast with some good options there.

/// SPOILERS: DON'T SAY I DIDN'T WARN YE! ///

"No, I...I think he likes to watch" is the hardest I've laughed at any joke in any episode of the show so far. Everything from the setup to Boimler's delivery felt very Rick and Morty, and it was so surprising it took me completely off guard.
Same. That whole sequence had me laughing, and the "I think he likes to watch" line just sent it over the top, I was in tears. I hadn't expected that kind of humor, so it caught me wholly off guard.

Anyhoo, felt some of the plot points coming before they did, like the horn customer being a scam artist, and Dr. T'ana being patient 8.019 (or whatever), but the way it played out was still a lot of fun, and assertive Tendi just manages to be even cuter than shy Tendi.

Even the opener was brilliant with Mariner absolutely beating the ever loving shit out of Boimler and Rutherford, "put the kid gloves back on!" and Shaxs just sitting on the bench not minding the two Starfleet officers being hammered into a pulp.

This one was straight up goof off fun. 8/10.

Gillian Vigman could totally do Caitian makeup.

If they do, the production needs to hire the team who created the Sisters of Plenitude makeup for the Doctor Who episodes New Earth and Gridlock.

Novice Hame & Sisters of Plenitude

Seldom do feline makeup designs have "fur" punched into the appliances, even for big budget theatrical movies. But they did for Doctor Who, a TV series!

Why does an alien talking in an Australian accent need any more explanation than an alien talking in an American or British accent?

Indeed; especially after Picard had Romulans with English and Australian accents.

The gripe I have is that a bumbling Irwinesque character is very low-hanging fruit which has already been done many times - geez, South Park and The Simpsons did it 15 years ago, when it was at least more culturally relevant.

Really? Jerry O'Connel totally has the Ransom "leading man" thing going on. I was thinking Fred Tatasciore's Shax was going to be the stretch.

I think all of the characters, even Ransom and Shaxs, were drawn with the actors in mind. That's actually fairly common in animation these days, especially when involving popular actors (O'Connell, Newsome, Quaid, arguably Cordero and Wells).

But LD also gives us pretty basic character design, so that Ransom could be played by any white man with brown hair and a square jaw.

But yes, I'm weirded out how much I think using the Ferengi for horrible but petty crime like animal poaching works.

I think this should be done more often.

I'd say 7.

I have to admit it's the first Lower Decks episode I thoroughly enjoyed. Until then, this series did strictly nothing for me.

I liked that episode because for once, it was more than just nonsensical comedy, there was some sense of adventure and mystery, and the plot was decent, at least for a 25-minute sci-fi comedy series.

I felt it was a little bit more The Orville and a little less Rick and Morty/Final Space, which is more to my taste. Plus, kudos for the Denobulans in the opening scene!
