Spoilers Picard Prequel "Children of Mars"

So Alex Kurtzman stated today that Children of Mars will be the Short episode that serves as the Prequel to Star Trek: Picard. Do you think it will be a prequel in the sense that it will be right before the events of the premiere or do you think it will take place in between 2379 and 2399. And do you think we'll see any TNG/DS9/VOY stars reprise their role for this episode or the Enterprise-E?

Then again, the PIC trailers show an armada of Romulans attacking Mars.

Apparently not a mere hope-they-don't-notice reuse of Mars footage to depict a generic red planet after all! Perhaps Picard's famed "armada" never had much to do with the evacuation of Romulus, but rather involved this Romulan invasion of Sol somehow. Might be we get to see bits of the event. More probably we just get to hear more of the story than in the main body of PIC.

Here’s a question - will Picard himself be in it or will it just be used to introduce new cast members.

Could we even get surprise returns - like ‘The Night Of the Doctor’ which reintroduced Paul McGann as the eight Doctor (Who)

Remember PS said he was filming a flashback in uniform shortly after SDCC in July. Presumably he wasn't referring to Data dream at the start of the second trailer, as that appears to be from the first episode since Picard wakes up in his vineyard (unless the trailer is misleading) and would have been shot long before SDCC.

So the "flashback" could be the Short Trek?

...Okay, the trailers don't actually show the Romulans attacking Mars. Instead, ships highly likely to be Romulan are shown approaching Mars en masse, after which there is combat action amidst red clouds that involves no obviously Romulan ships.

Perhaps Picard saves the Romulans by letting them migrate to Mars, and then protects them from the folks in kiteships who think Romulans have no business being on Mars?

These would be plausible events for 2384 specifically, I guess.

Why wouldn't he be? Just because the clip is in the current trailer doesn't mean that it is early in the story.

But supposedly principal photography for the entire season would already have finished anyway. And location shooting at the vineyard would all be done in a neat bundle if humanly possible.

I hope it features the E, perhaps the Titan, and the FC uniforms.
Although it's possible they coexisted with the FC uniforms, Lower Decks is set in 2380 and features a new uniform style.

It has nothing to do with the planet Mars. Romulus and Remus were the sons oft the god Mars in Roman mythology.

True, it could just be a poetic name. Or it could be a double entendre, referring to the Romulans and Mars or the Martian colonies in some way.

Or "Children of Mars" could just refer to anyone who is a follower of a warrior (martial) mentality. But that's less likely.

yeah you hit the nail on the head. it's almost certainly a double entendre.

That does not mean it will have nothing to do with planet Mars. How do we know Reman and Romulan refugees weren't settled there aftewards? Trek has only visited Mars once (Demons) as far as I recall, and it would be interesting to go back

It doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me for a huge group of Romulan survivors to settle on a planet where they can't natively survive the conditions, when a ton of M-Class planets exist for them to settle.

I don't think we're ever gonna see those in live-action outside of cosplay. Modern Trek seems to have a different uniform for every ship in the Discovery-era (see: "The Trouble With Harry" for a third style) and I imagine they'll treat other eras the same, for merchandising reasons if nothing else.
