Craft beer drinkers?

Hey all.

Pretty new here. I am a big craft beer fan and my husband and I go to breweries often. Wondering if there were any other fans that wanted to trade opinions, give recommendations, talk beer.

I tend to drink NE IPAs and my two favorite breweries are (currently) Trillium and Sand City.

Little about me: 40, married with two young kids, live in the northeast, love to read and write, travel, go to the beach, drink with friends, work out, hike, and go to the city.

I became a ST fan in the last few years. I started with TNG (which I love), went on to DS9 (which I think is absolutely genuis) and I am now plodding my way through VOY (which I am just meh about). I have never seen a ST movie, nor have I read a ST book.

I'd like to know if there's an IPA that tastes like original imported Red Stripe, or the domestic US version.

The current imported version tastes like Budweiser.

I became a big fan of IPAs when I was living in New York City. I really miss going to City Swiggers on the Upper East Side. They always had a great rotation of craft beers.

I mostly drink bitter or a blonde ale. I do like an IPA though. Green Label was the best, brewed by Green King I think. It was about 2.5% and half the price of any other pint in town. You could have a midweek session, change from a tenner for a kebab on the way home, and be clear headed enough for work in the morning.

I think my two favourite IPAs at the moment are Goose Island IPA and Head Stock from Nickel Brook.

Personally not a beer drinker but my boyfriend is. He generally prefers IPAs. Actually i think it's prerry funny when he asks me to get him some since I know NOTHING about beer. I just pick a 6 pack with interesting artwork as long as it says IPA

Nice! The only time I've had a Star Trek beer was at the Vegas experience. I had Romulan Ale at Quark's!

Adore the craft beer! An old chum sent me the Star Trek 50th anniversary Garrison pack a few years ago. Very tasty. Star Trek and beer.... why not?

But these days only able to drink two... maybe three pints of some kinds of craft beer or else I get a worse hangover than drinking three pints of whiskey. So strange... I can drink a 6-pack of domestic, mass produced beer, no problem. But often, even a small amount of craft beer give me a pounding headache the next day and / or terrible gut rot.

Anyone else experience this with craft beer? Maybe I am just getting old

Probably just beer in general if you're anything like me. I used to be able to drink a lot, but I'm about to turn 30 and I've noticed that I'm good after like 2, maybe 3 cocktails, or mead, or wine. But with beer, I generally stick to 1, maaaaybe 2, otherwise I get really bloated and uncomfortable.

The craft brewery industry certainly has exploded in the last 5 years or so. I remember when it was difficult to find anything other than the mainstream, which has been as recently as 10-15 years ago, at least in Canada. Now it seems that every little town has a craft brewery of their own, and the store shelves are practically overflowing.

I remember being so happy about Mill Street because it represented a change that better beer could be had. Now of course, they're owned by Labatt.

We have one craft brewery in town. They've been doing pretty well and are looking to expand. They initially had a tough time, and had only been able to get their beer in stores about 3-4 years ago. But I'm pretty proud of them for getting as far as they have, as the previous brewery we had had closed down due to a lack of support.

Love craft beers, far more than domestic "big batch" fare. Living in "Upstate South Carolina" we're fortunate to have several really good local beers. Thomas Creek (Greenville), R.J. Rockers (Spartanburg) Highland Brewing (Ashville) and Sierra Nevada are all located in about a 60 mile radius. Excellent beer selections from each of them. I'm loving living here!!!

I live in a region that has been overflowing with craft beer for the last fifteen years. Personally, I tend to go for stouts, porters, or brown ales. But I do try to pair with what I'm eating. A like a glass of pale ale or red ale with chicken, and Belgan-style witbier with seafood.

Well, maybe it has a lot to do with what's available regionally. At the time they started becoming available, there wasn't terribly much. They've gone downhill though and I'm not sure if it has anything to do with the Labatts purchase. Their Tankhouse Ale which used to be my favourite wasn't quite as good last time I had it.

I will say that the Mill Street Brew Pub here in Ottawa is a great place to have a beer though. It's a fantastic location.
