Craft beer drinkers?

I live in a region that has been overflowing with craft beer for the last fifteen years. Personally, I tend to go for stouts, porters, or brown ales. But I do try to pair with what I'm eating. A like a glass of pale ale or red ale with chicken, and Belgan-style witbier with seafood.

My husband loves stouts. He buys KBS and ages it, so we always have it around. Have you tried Hunahpu from Cigar City Brewing? I am not a fan, but all the stout lovers I know think it is amazing.

Personally not a beer drinker but my boyfriend is. He generally prefers IPAs. Actually i think it's prerry funny when he asks me to get him some since I know NOTHING about beer. I just pick a 6 pack with interesting artwork as long as it says IPA

Honestly, you can discover some really cool beers that way.

I will say that the Mill Street Brew Pub here in Ottawa is a great place to have a beer though. It's a fantastic location.

Yeah, that is a great place! Food is pretty good too, and the times we've gone, we've always come away happy. I have to say that in general, the choice of what you can get in restauraunts have greatly improved within the last 5 years too. Used to be, they'd either sell Molson or Labatt products, at least in Ontario, and that was that. But now the options are much better, more often than not with local options if they're available.

Big fan of craft beers here. I remember the days when the best beers were imported from Europe. But when micro breweries popped up in the USA, they accelerated in their growth and innovation. Now they can produce brews that easily rival age-old European brewers. Except the Belgian monks, of course.

There are so many choices these days, it makes your head spin before even taking a sip. ;)

I enjoy so many variants. A friend of mine just introduced me to a grapefruit beer. I know, sounds disgusting, but it was delicious! Just a touch sweeter than I usually care for.

I do like a hops rich beer, but there's a point where it becomes too bitter and can give me indigestion. A nice clean crisp IPA can be very enjoyable. But I have to admit, I'm an old school stout kind of guy. Especially oatmeal stouts. I just love the heavy, syrupy quality. But dark ambers are wonderful too. Double and triple bocks.

When I used to drink beer more regularly, Trader Joe's Stockyard Ale was a favorite. Gordon Biersch is the maker (TJ's just puts on its own branding). Yet, I'm becoming more discriminating these days. I'd rather spend $15 on a 6-pack of really excellent brew, rather than $9 for something more mainstream. Ommegang is a terrific brewery and their "Game of Thrones" releases are pretty damned good. Weyerbacher is also a favorite brewer of mine.

I feel like I've gone to the end of craft beers and have come full circle and am now drinking mostly watery asian beers.

Australia is craft beer heaven but at some point I started feeling like it's all a bit too much, some of the heaviness, the "let's have another flavour in this.." thing. I do like a nice IPA but I want it to be clean, I don't want some arty farty vanilla note in there. I love my stouts but the constant amping up of the coffee, oatmeal, vanillaness.. ugh. My fave stout is Old Rasputin from North Coast Brewing in the US, it's like pine and snow and blackness. Pretty much the opposite of a lot of popular stouts. I don't care for Founders at all, the ones I've had anyway (3?), found them very over rated. One great stout is 8 Wired from New Zealand, their whole range is pretty amazing.

Anyway.. yeah I could talk about craft beer all day but I find myself cracking open an Asahi half the time (or much worse some HIte )

Asahi Dry is a really nice lager, crisp and refreshing. I've also enjoyed Kirin Ichiban. Have you also tried Singha?

Ever since I wrote I was sorta over craft beer Ive been remembering all these ones I really like including a new one I had last week :lol

On another note I just opened a bottle of expensive (for me, probably half price in amurrica) of sake and when I smelled it I got tears in my eyes it was so beautiful. Even though its not supposed to oxidize much I always find them better on the second day so I'm looking fwd to having some now and then saving it.

Ah, yes. The Old Rasputin! Death in a mug. 9% alcohol. When you go to the brewery, you can only get 12 oz. glasses of it, and in the store they only sell 4 in a pack.

We were at the North Coast Brewery years ago, and Old Rasputin beat us to a pulp, took our wallets, pantsed us, and left us in the parking lot to die.

I did not know it was 9%

Its hard to find here so when I do I always have two :D

I really want to find it to take home. I am gonna bug my beer guy again about this. It's obviously coming into the country so someone must be selling it retail and not just in beer eateries.

I prefer Real Ales, but as they are pretty limited supply in the pub's here, Craft Ales are very nice and like many others, I prefer Red Ales and Pale Ales.
