your ideas for new Starfleet technology

Pretty much all the hologram based ideas are pretty ace and doable with modern CGI and a half decent budget (should they make a new series). They are also logical tech steps.

My idea was a more basic safety device, probably not realy utilised unless there was an emergency. It's basicly a small (half the size of a modern phone maybe) device that activates automatically should the wearer be exposed to a vacuum. When activated a spherical forcefield would be erected and breathable atmosphere injected into it. This would only be a temporary measure to help keep 'ejected' crew members alive long enough to be transported/tractor beamed to safety. The device could also be equipped with a homing device to facilitate a speedy recovery and a 'euthanise' button. This could be used if you realise help is not on the way and the power on the device is running out. Power would run after a short period of time. Either way it would beat being having your blood boil.

- Transwarp jumps. A ship can jump from sector to sector on a transwarp basis.

- Holograms that have internal mobile emitters.

Internal emitters are a cracking idea, like Rimmer's internal light bee from Red Dwarf (apologies for those who don't have a clue what Red Dwarf is).

The thought occurred that Tash's Graviton Catapult from 'The Voyager Conspiracy' could be recreated/adopted by starfleet. It looks more 'federation' than the very Borg like Transwarp corridors. These could be placed at strategic points in the federation/galaxy for pretty much instantaneous travel. Information gained by Voyager could help in the construction of such devices. This might also help lazy writers avoid any ridiculous continuity errors when it comes to vessels travelling between specific locations.

* Backup pattern buffer, to rematerialize anyone killed on an away mission

* Video cameras for members of an away team to send images to a starship's viewscreen and/or the screen of another team member's camera, possibly integrated into general-purpose tricorders

* Impulse and warp drive integrated into the same machinery, like a fax machine that's also a copier and printer

* Sliding walls in some places to enlarge a room temporarily

* Dedicated shuttle-production shop to replace those lost nearly every week (It still happens; we just don't get to see it)

* Mess-hall busbots

I'm going to post this without reading all 5 pages. This idea comes from FASA's Star Fleet Battles There was a Gorn torpedo with a shield. I don't know the specifics, because I didn't play the game. I was told that it would engulf its target before the warhead exploded. Somehow all the energy was focused INWARD

There was one weapon from a book I read. It was a shoulder mounted blaster. Where ever the user looked, the gun would shoot. It was more thought activated weaponry.

You know, someone had the idea of holograms doing the work for you. What if you had those Hologuys working on the Omega projected (Only Section 31 would put human lives above intelligent machines). Develop a weapon that a ship could use on on a Borg ship

Giant antimatter cube the size and mass of a Borg Cube, locked in a containment field and pushed by a fleet of warp ships.

I'd just like to see a more elaborated-upon 'final' set of uniforms, 'wrist-communicators' versus 'commbadges' for DS9/VOY-era (Starfleet Transport Command) freighter crews for better fic references.

Plus, Corps of Engineers' multi-tools, "Phaser gauntlets" or phase-pistols, versus DS9-era chemical (non-lethal) defenses such as pepper spray / mace while on shore leave or during away teams.

A headband or sunglasses-mounted pinhole camera "holo-imager" while the data storage unit is likely the size of an I-Pod, with a small cable between the two halves, with an adjustable clasp that can grab onto a uniform pants' waistband or belt-loop. Or, if the storage unit is bigger, it's still portable but on a shoulder strap and the size of a Starfleet Doctor's carry-all.

Why does Starfleet Tech have to be weapons based I like the ideas here especially Postronic chip tech for ships computer systems, and maybe some advanced hand and palm based repulsor tech for security teams to protect away teams from danger as well exploratory device using anti-grav tech powered by nano warp cores the size of a car tire for instance.
I like replacing the Transporter with Subspace portals for both civilian and military uses, imagine you're entering an star system and needed send a team to the surface of the planet to survey for first contact, but also have some of back up transporter tech to retrieve the team if the Subspace portal system is down or jammed once you're in orbit.
You have to think of alternatives here.
As to using cloaking tech for covert ops to enter star systems without permission of inhabitants is not only contrary to the charter of the federation of planets, but if the quadrant in question has other designs on our area of space for conquest then use it,but as a last resort .
The ship designs especially the shuttle-craft, runabouts should be outfitted with micro-torps,phasers,and emergency Subspace portal units just in case of surprise attack, and that the ship cannot defend itself.
Those are some of mine concepts based upon what was discussed in this topic.

Axion Torpedo.

The warhead is comprised of a volatile form of dark matter that is artificially created and stored in a quadlithium sheath when not in use. When the torpedo is fired the volatile dark matter and quadlithium is compressed inside a containment field. When the torpedo hits it's target within a mere microsecond the containment field implodes the volatile dark matter and creates as much explosive power as 50 Quantum torpedoes.

Personal Deep Space Transport Pod

The PDSTP is a man sized pod that encases just a single person. Whilst in the pod the person is placed in a form of suspended animation and connected to a nutrient pipe. The pod has an inbuilt warp coil and can reach warp 9. It is fully automated and awakens the occupant once they have reached the designated co-ordinate.
Due to the pods small size and an inbuilt form of stealth the pod is rarely if ever detectable by starships.

Lifeboat?

Lifeboats are for emergency escape and not deep space travel, Lifeboats are designed to find the nearest habitable planet only, are not warp capable and a person cannot survive for months in a lifeboat because there is no suspended animation technology. Not only that, lifeboats are for many people whereas this pod is for just one occupant who wishes to travel a vast distance.

So you see, there's a difference. :)

Gloves. Why do they go into situations then slice up / burn / contaminate their hands by handling dangerous crap? Make the gloves as thin as latex surgical gloves, but impervious to tearing/heat/chemicals/diseases/etc.

Instant-on transporter scramblers. Sure the enemy won't beam their troops down if you're scrambling the transporters. But how about if they're halfway through beaming their troops down and you flick the switch, instantly causing the beams to disperse?

Temporal torpedo. Shoot it now, blow up your enemy five minutes ago when their shields were down, right before they arrived. Complete with a canned subspace message telling you to thank yourself for saving yourself the trouble. You just come out of warp and say, "This is Captain Picard of the Feder-BOOM!" "Hello, Jean-Luc, this is you. The Romulans were planning to attack you in 2 minutes, so we blew them up. You're welcome. P.S., if you go to your quarters in 3 minutes, you'll catch Bev in the shower."

Smarter computers (already mentioned). Computers that speak up for themselves and suggest ideas you should follow up on. Instead of having the sensor data sit in the memory banks for 2 days before someone interprets it, have the computer point it out for you as soon as the reading takes place.

Probably older ideas, but good ones:

Strengthening shields. Shields that absorb energy and physical impacts and just grow stronger. "Captain, incoming torpedoes! Oh, it's ok...shields up 5012 percent!"

Holographic real-time families. Don't drag your kids into space. Just interact in real-time with them on the holodeck.

This was pretty much mostly done in an episode of TNG. Worf's old girlfriend rode in inside of a modified torpedo/probe.

You sure she wasn't just hanging about in that thing? which ep was it?

It was TNG: The Emissary, not to be confused with DS9: Emissary, in which K'Ehleyr rode inside a class-8 probe at warp.

Well, regardless, it doesn't seem like an advanced technology or in widespread use in TNG. In the future Starfleet could design these things special and they could see widespread use.

The way I see it is that it's a man sized warp nacelle but instead of the ramscoop it has a tiny deflector dish. On one side of the nacelle there is the power generator and on the otherside is the stasis pod. It's all highly integrated so it's not very big.

One more thing, it's been suggested that torpedoes can sustain warp speeds when fired from a ship at warp. Perhaps it was modified so it retained warp speed for longer than usual, so in actual fact the probe was fired from a vessel travelling at warp 9 and the casing itself was not warp capable on it's own.

Edit: Just something I threw together.

The question is, why would anyone want to use such a suspension system if they had other means (such as a ship) available? I mean, I can maybe see an application for sending people to start a colony on a planet that has a unique environment or is difficult to reach, but otherwise I can't see too many that couldn't be accomplished by a larger craft with dedicated utilities.
