X-Men: First Class Cameos [SPOILER!]

I caught a few cameos/mentions in the film, but I've probably missed some. Let's list them here. Here are the ones I found:

1. Wolverine in the bar.
2. Rebecca Romijn as older Mystique
3. William Stryker's father
4. Storm (we see her writing in a book, when Xavier first puts on Cerebro)
5. Magneto's helmet from his first appearance in the comics (the one with the horns)
6. The New Mutants mentioned (albeit used as a description for the then unnamed X-men).
 
My dad thought the little girl reading in Cerebro was Jean Grey.

I didn't really like the Wolverine cameo. It felt more like it should have been an extra scene re-including in an extended edition. The RR scene works because there is a wonderful and lovely point to it. I had expected and hoped she would be in it in some way, and her scenes makes far more sense.

I did, however, notice there were scenes in the trailers and clips that were not in the movie, so maybe more cameos or confirmations were filmed that didn't make it to the big screen.
 
if scott is in it then should'nt havok be a younger than what he is. scott being the older brother.
 
I'm curious. Why did this deserve it's own separate thread? I'm sure those who've seen the movie in the movie discussion thread would have brought all of these up since there's already a spoiler warning in that thread's title.

Because I just want to talk about the cameos, not the other aspects of the film.

Why? It fit in well with the recruitment montage and was a genuinely funny scene. It's not like it broke the pacing of the film or anything.
 
I've no problem with the Logan cameo after I was told about it. Didn't seem to me like it was forced or anything like that.
 
Yeah, that Logan cameo felt pretty natural (and funny) to me. He wouldn't be sporting adamantium at that time, either. It would have been nice if they had shown that fact.

How though? I guess they could have had him extend his claws, but there was no good reason for him to do it, it would have taken more money to create the effect and it wouldn't have enhanced the scene in any meaningful way.
 
Speaking as someone who hates forced cameos or previous film recognition, I thought the Wolverine cameo was fantastic! Hilarious, fitting, within the confines of the story, and I agree with a review I read that said "best PG-13 'fuck' of all time."

It was the two Professor X future baldness jokes that I thought were a little weak.
 
I personally just felt that Wolverine was forced. Someone who was coming into the movie not knowing anything about who he was would wonder what the point of it was. And what was the point beyond having him there for the stunt of it? I'd just rather an extra minute have been paid to a mutant already recruited. Again, there are clips in the trailers that are missing from the theatrical version, so maybe there is more to those I felt got a little slighted. I suppose I'm in the minority? After all the complaints of people not wishing to have Wolvie here, they liked the cameo?

I think the Rebecca brief served a far better purpose then a PG-13 'fuck'.

I noticed the younger girl with the white hair as Storm who was writing something in a book. Wouldn't be much of an X-Men fan if I didn't know Storm when I saw her, thanks very much. However, my dad claimed there was another younger dark haired girl playing with a book or something that he hoped was Jean Grey. Maybe, maybe not.

The Rebecca cameo was great too! And yes, it did serve a better purpose to the film that a PG-13 fuck...but the PG-13 fuck was fun. Which was another great thing about this film...it was character driven, thematic, really emotionally resonant and dramatic and moving...but it was also a helluva lot of fun!

It was part of the recruitment montage. Anyone not knowing it was Wolverine would probably just figure it was a massively failed attempt at recruiting someone, and find it funny on that level.
 
But it could have been done with anybody. They could have had a guy toss a flaming card at them for trying to join a card game. A girl could have gotten scared of them and ran through a wall. It didn't have to be Wolverine. It could have been anybody else. I don't wonder if it was required of them to have a Wolverine appearance and this was their crafty answer? I most definitely liked the mix of fun with the serious here, and the scene was fun in of itself, but I would rather have had more time with the kids saying how much their powers sucked. Little more depth. Besides, he was the only adult mutant they found? Why go with 5 kids?

It's like Eowyn crawling around with the bad hair in the extended Return of the King. Does it need to be in the theatrical? No, and it isn't.
