Spoilers Would a live-action Lower Decks work?

Now first I want to say I love this show of NuTrek/StreamTrek but I much prefer the live action format for nuance and detail. Animation is great especially for creating wacky and unrealistic scenarios cheaply and effectively while keeping the possibilities open for creative liberty. On the other side of the coin I just think it would be very cool to see some lower Decks characters cross over with Discovery or Strange New Worlds if they could keep the comedy balanced throughout the ensemble cast. I don't know if it would necessarily be a good idea buts it's fun to speculate!

I think a lot of Lower Decks humor could be easily transferred to live-action. Some gags would probably have to get cut for a budget. Like Tuskin38 said, the crossover will be a great glimpse into what Lower Decks could've been, or maybe what a live-action movie could be. Pre-planned or not, the LOW main cast not being primarily voice actors does reap benefits.

It would necessitate some recasting, I'd think (or handwaves). There'd be a lot of visual discrepancies. Fred Tatasciore looks very little like Shaxs. And Eugene Cordero is not that tall, iirc.

^ I think in most cases, the voice actor of an animated character wouldn't be a good visual match for a live-action depiction. Katee Sackhoff in Star Wars is an exception.

There's going to be a Lower Decks crossover in Strange New Worlds Season 2.
As far as we know, it's just Mariner and Boimler crossing over to live action, and maybe Pike is going to crossover into the animation.

I was hoping they would avoid crossovers between the 23rd century setting of SNW, and later Trek timeframes. But oh well. I guess I'll be cautiously optimistic about this.

I expect the upcoming crossover will have them a little more subdued... but the episode will probably be light in tone. More like the "fantasy kingdom" episode and not like the "first servant" one. Hope that was spoiler free.

do you want to see a naked Shaxs? Because that's how you get a naked Shaxs

Given the choice between that and a hard spinning back kick to the solar plexus, I'd choose the birthday suit Bajoran. But were it possible to say "none of the above", that would be my choice.

Luckily the actors for Mariner and Boimler resemble their animated counterparts, so I think it's going to work out well. Not as much for the rest of the actors... which is probably why only Mariner and Boimler are suggested to appear.

Noel Wells could easily pull off Tendi. Eugene Cordero and Rutherford would not be an exact match, but they could make it work. Dawnn Lewis could easily play a live action Captain Freeman.

I hope they have the CGI budget for convincing "live-action" versions of T'ana and Migleemo. Birb sounds especially difficult to pull off well...all those feathers!

I was under the impression the animated characters are slightly based on the actors themselves, I certainly thought Cordero looked quite like rutherford once some makeup was applied. Same with Noel Wells, give her a pixie bob and enough green paint to cover Shrek.

Any changes could be explained away by the "Dimensional shift". There's some time screwing clearly going on considering Pike era and Lower Decks are like a century apart.

I'm looking forward to the crossover event just for this reason. I would love to see the Lower Decks characters in live action especially Tendi and Ransom.

To be honest, parts of it would totally work, parts of it would not. Character's such as Shax, T'ana and Migleemo would have to be recast, or altered their look on. Either that or we go full tracker CGI nightmare or call in the furry suit makers and tell them they have an unlimited budget (Nobody wants that, you think you might but no) as so much of their character is derived from their physicality.

Many of the bigger earlier alien gags we've seen and dare say even enjoyed over the four seasons so far would probably have to go due to simple cost or impracticality. But we can keep the copious amounts of gunk but would likely only see the "aftermath" than the utterly disgusting thing play out fully.

No, too much like that Short Trek which was fine as a one and done but every week? Just let Lower Decks cover the comedy.
