I don't understand how anyone could think TWOK was the worst TOS movie made? Ricardo Montalban's performance was chilling as the hell-bent-for-revenge Khan. The nebula battle scenes (especially the "drop their shields" sequence) had people on their feet in the movie theater cheering. And I can tell you from experience Spock's death scene had everyone in that theater crying...and that includes the men.

Ya I dont see how either but some people did vote that way in the worst movie poll. Doesnt make much sense to me!

I voted for TVH because it was my first Trek film and the one to get me into the entire franchise. I also voted that way because I felt that it is the best of all the 11 films.

Well if someone can apparently think that The Final Frontier or Nemesis are the best Trek film, then anything's possible.....

I would be one of those people who believes Star Trek V is an excellent movie. Of course, it now has to take a back seat to Star Trek (2009), which just took over that slot a few hours ago.

Just got done watching Insurrection 10 mins ago. I have to say it's the best TNG-era film. I liked it way better than Nemesis, Generations or First Contact. The only thing I didn't like was the tiny role Worf played in it. It felt kind of insulting. 50% of his dialogue was in response to immature jokes regarding his "condition".

Hey, I can appreciate you thinking that it's an excellent movie, but c'mon, the best Trek movie? Surely you jest... :wtf:

I'm flabbergasted. Seriously, Insurrection? It wasn't as bad as Nemesis I'll grant you, but again, better than Generations or First Contact? You're madder than Mad Jack McMad!

Nope. I'm completely serious. For me, the combination of story elements with characterization played off by the cast members and the surrounding atmosphere of the Federation and myriad cultures, it is now my favorite Star Trek movie. :)

Well fair enough, I respect your opinion. :techman:

Generations and First Contact had too much of a "reboot" feel to them, IMO. For instance in First Contact they go back in time and witness/interfere in historical events. The "Tribbles" episode of DS9 was done more tastefully in this regard.

Insurrection, on the other hand, while preachy at times (and a little too much of the Picard maybe), also was more low-key; they weren't trying to save the universe or something. And it was actually about the people they were trying to save instead of some angsty personal dilemma of one of the crew members (Nemesis, Generations).

Also, it had some twists I didn't expect (which itself was something I wasn't expecting), except of course the ending were Picard is once again climbing ladders and jumping between platforms battling the bad guy. (WTF, is he a Super Mario Bro or something?)

Thank you. I respect your right to continue looking at me like my head is on upside down. :D ;)

First Contact, followed by The Search For Spock and The Undiscovered Country (they're pretty much tied).

I don't understand how anyone could think TWOK was the worst TOS movie made?
It's not the worst (TFF and Nemesis vie for that distinction, with Insurrection a heair's breadth behind)), but neither is it as good as people make it out to be. IMO, of course; to each their own. :bolian:

ST III
James Horners score, stealing of the enterprise, destruction of the enterprise, camaraderie, emotion, it's all here in this movie.

Followed by:
ST II
ST VI
ST FC
ST IV
ST V
ST TMP

1. Star Trek (09)
- Funny, sexy, emotionally-driven, breath-taking visual effects, superb screenplay and most important, the acting!! The only fault that I can find in this film are the few empty plot holes, however, a lot is explained in the Countdown comic series.

2. The Wrath of Khan
- The best villain of all Trek. Grew attached to the bond forged between Kirk and Spock depicted in this film.

3. Generations
- Watching this film is like revisiting my fondest childhood memories. A very personal film for me. It was sad to watch the destruction of the Enterprise and Kirk's death, but came away feeling hopeful in the end. The music by Dennis McCarthy was absolutely nostalgic.

4. The Voyage Home
- I loved it for its humor. Not a dull moment in this film.

5. The Undiscovered Country
- The story for this film is undeniably one of the best. Not a fan of Christopher Plummer, but he nailed the role of the villain, Gen. Chang pretty well. I could rank the film higher, probably to #3 if I weren't watching this film too many times. Historically significant in the Trek canon, and sends out a strong message that peace and prosperity is possible for people from different worlds.

6. First Contact
- Despite the fact that this film falls on the latter half of my list, it's still a GREAT film that I wouldn't mind seeing every so often. Introduces a whole new element of "Borg" that we haven't seen before. I remember how excited I was to watch this film in the theaters months ahead, and wasn't disappointed. Loved the new look of the new Enterprise and the uniforms. Honestly, I was less thrilled with how old Cochrane was (in his late-50s to early-60s) as oppose to the way he was portrayed as a careless, greedy drunk.

7. The Search for Spock
- It's not a bad film at all. No other film really portrays Kirk as the man that he is: Someone willing to risk his life and career to save his best friend. Superbly directed by Nimoy. Though I did find the Genesis story and the James Horner score to be too TWOK.

8. The Motion Picture:
- I am a big fan of 2001: A Space Odyssey, and so I did appreciate the Kubrick-style, slow-pace that Robert Wise used to give us special attention to the "grandness" of the scenary in space. Some might hate how it took 20 minutes for Kirk to go from Earth headquarters to the Enterprise. What I didn't like was that the pace of this film was too slow Similarly, there wasn't a whole lot of suspense in the film.

9. Insurrection:
- The screenplay and directing sucked and ruined the underlying message of this film, which is fighting for the rights of others. A scene that greatly disturbed me was where the Riker maneuver was showcased with the use of a joystick...seriously Frakes?!

10. The Final Frontier:
- After watching this film a few years ago, I sweared that I would never watch this film again.

11. Nemesis:
- Very painful to see this film collapse the way it did. The film went wrong on so many levels -- first and foremost, it was a bad imitation of TWOK and worst, they unnecesarily killed off Data! And B2 or whatever thing that was...WTF was that shit?!!

Uhm, the topic starter forgot to include the new movie in that poll.
The new movie wasn't out yet when I started this topic a month ago, and I wanted this poll to correspond with the previously-existing Worst Movie Poll. Besides, including extremely recent movies in a poll like this tends to throw things off because, thanks to the hype surrounding the film, people are much more likely to get excited and declare that it was either the best or the worst of the lot. I'd rather wait a year or so before asking how the new film compares to previous ones.
I didn't saw the start date, my apologies. And your logic is sound.
