Not to sidetrack too much as well, but I really enjoyed the pacing of Picard up until I guess the end of "The End Is the Beginning." Basically until they went into space. Most everything up to that point I thought was golden, pretty much everything after that though kind of killed the show for me.I don't. In fact I may have sidetracked this thread by saying I prefer Picard's pacing to Discovey. Not being action packed doesn't mean it has pacing problems. I think Discovery is a little too fast paced, LD is way too fast paced, Picard is just right.
Now trying to get back to the OP topic, I like the opening scene. I also like the weird touch screen of Book's ship. But where is the cat?
Give me a show of nothing but Picard on Earth, at his vineyard or anywhere, and Zhaban and Laris, and I'm good. I could watch that for the next 10 years. What we got though, no, yeah, I don't want to ever see that again.

I feel that Discovery is going to slow down at least for these first couple of episodes. Maybe even the first four going by the new news on what's supposed to happen.
One thing on the opening...
Yeah, it felt like almost looking at a clip from a movie. I suppose that's to be expected nowadays, and if you don't have it it's like "what are you doing?" Just the same, it's comforting to see, and a huge component to the show for me.That's how I felt during season 1 and 2 every episode was filmed like it was a movie....... I love Discovery
EDIT: And looking at the tech again, specifically at the ship that Book is in because obvious, but we haven't seen anything like that before in Discovery. And everything is even more streamlined and minimalist than you usually see in Star Trek.
