Was it a guy movie, or a chick movie?

mine too! and sorry, I meant your handle/name. not your ava :)

so what'd you think of the second movie?

Star Trek, at it's best, is equal oppurtunity entertainment, and this flick is in that category.

My wife, who is not a Trek fan, loved it. She especailly loved Urban's Bones, if you know what I mean.

I have such conflicted feelings about it! Parts of it I liked, parts I didn't like. I was hoping it would be more enjoyable than what it was. I kinda stopped enjoying the show around season nine (I amazingly like season eight alright overall), and the movie sort of reminded me why. (Even though I did see the movie twice in an effort to get rid of my bad feelings about it, and it was better the second time because I just ignored all the stuff I didn't like.)

Pretty much geared to popular guy tastes.

More gals than guys around the office have seen it. All reviews have been good or very good from both sexes. It is definitely not in the same category as a classic chick flick like An Affair to Remember.

oh me too! very conflicted, very complicated. on the one hand, I loved that they finally came out with it. I've been waiting for a follow up to FTF for so long (not a direct follow-up, just another TXF movie), on the other, I felt so let down. the story was okay, nothing to write home about but not bad, and the chemistry between DD and GA was just as magnificent and pregnant as I remembered. but something, everything was missing! in the end, I just wanted it to end. I don't want any more movies (I know, we're not getting any more). I just want to remember the series as we had it -- in its heydey... the best there was.

it'll always be a special show. my Friday nights (and then my sunday nights) have never been the same since. :)

oh, and it's nice to meet you! welcome to the board :techman:

Yeah I wanted another XF movie soooo bad, and then? Was not overly satisfied with what we got. But the chemistry was great and still magical, so that did make up for it. I think I just built the movie up too much in my mind before I went to see it. I normally spoil myself for stuff like this, but in this case I didn't. So I think I had higher expectations for it than it could deliver. (Funnily enough IWTB is what inspired me to spoil myself silly for this new Trek movie, and so I went in with lower expectations and came out loving it )

I too would prefer to remember XF in its heyday. It's been off the air for a long time now, but my Sunday nights won't be the same either.

And it's nice to meet you too! :)

At my first viewing it seemed to be most definitely a guy movie. When the appearance of a certain torch-carrying character in a snow cave garnered applause, the chick sitting next to me asked her bf why people were clapping. He had to explain it to her. :wtf:

that's good. it means we have authentic non-trekkies watching the movie. if they like it... great!! makes me happy :D

Just curious, noticed more male enthusiasm. But that's just one persons microuniverse.

I've been a Trek watcher since the first episode of TOS aired.

A bunch of us old girlfriends went to see it the night it opened at IMAX and had a blast.

Certainly a lot of younger guys were present that Thursday night (I wondered if they got mixed up and thought they were seeing another SW flick instead). I was glad we old broads went together - I was relieved we weren't the only fans over 50 there. But there were plenty of couples - middle-aged, twenty somethings and otherwise - and EVERYBODY seemed to love the movie. Lots of cheers and applause at the end.

There's plenty of action and fistfights for the guys and anyone with short attention spans.

But lotsa fangirls love science fiction...we all love gorgeous eye candy and sci-fi glory up on the screen.

And the best eye candy of all was the male cast - these guys are all keepers!! WHEW! Hot-eyed Spock, dauntless Kirk, debonnair Bones...even Captain Pike was gorgeous. And the can all ACT. OMG! Thank you Mr Arbrams!
