Transitional Uniforms between TMP and TWOK designs

If anyone is willing, daring, and/or bored enough, I have a project for you...

I've been trying to imagine a uniform that would have existed between the TMP and TWOK. And for some reason I kind of feel like they probably would be closer in style and function to the TMP design, but with the bold maroon of the TWOK design.

I don't have photoshop, nor would I be smart enough to figure it out if I did, but I need to see this idea come to fruition. So I was wondering if anyone out there is willing/bored enough to do this for me.

Basically I would like the picture I have included here photoshopped so that the uniforms' colors are maroon, and the bottoms black, to match the Monster Maroons of TWOK.

I was thinking these could be transitional uniforms between TMP and TWOK, but could also stay in service as kind of a relaxed variant once the Monster Maroons are introduced.

Again, only if you're willing or bored enough. I'm not expecting a huge response, but I'm hoping someone will play along. I can't give you compensation, but I'll give you a 'Like'!

I love the TMP uniforms as they are! I might add shoulder pads, epaulettes as standard, more collars like Spock had, and proper trousers instead of booties. You could add collars using the department colours I suppose but then Spock's would be orange...

You could modify the away team jackets to be more like the maroon jackets as a first step.

I experimented with different colours in place of the white but I'm unconvinced. TNG uniforms looked way better with a collar and TMP did too though.

It's possible that going for a lighter colour on the tabbard gives the illusion of being slightly more buff. By Twok that ship had sailed.

BTW - I recall someone on facebook doctoring TMP images to TOS colours with black trousers. what you are looking for is not far off that.

If there was a transitional uniform, what I imagine (and this would have happened in the first year after TMP, as crews across Starfleet would have been complaining nonstop) is the 'two-piece' uniforms truly becoming two-piece with black pants/boots and the medscanner buckle being replaced with the gold Delta Shield buckle. The one-piece jumpsuits would gain black boots and a black belt with loops while still retaining the original color scheme. Then, like Pauln6 said, turn the away team jackets maroon and add a gold Delta Shield pin at the usual spot. From there, it's just a short hop to the TWOK uniforms.

Gave it a shot using a different pic. The yellow in the other pic was a pain to work with. :p

Excellent! Thanks!

Or everybody wears something like Kirk's admiral uniform, as a precursor to the TWOK jacket?

How about something close to the changes Nerys Myk made on Admiral uni above? The gray becomes red and black, and I imagine maybe add the TWOK-style belt to it. But I always did like the Admiral uniform from TMP.

Me too! But I'm just thinking that, if TMP does take place in 2273, and Starfleet issues the monster maroons by 2278 (source: TNG's Cause and Effect), then I'm thinking the uniforms in between we're a little bit of a hybrid. But heck, maybe Starfleet just decided one day to change things up dramatically.

It's only a few years, I doubt there would be yet another different design between the two. There wasn't something in between US Army olive drab and USAF blue, for instance, or olive drab and Army Green in the '50s. What generally happens with a major change like that is there is a transition period, usually two or three years, when you can wear one or the other, but you can't mix and match parts of the old and new. With some small exceptions of course; Army "goldenlite" rank stripes were allowed to be worn on the olive drab uniforms even though they were part of the new Army Green color scheme.

Fair enough. I just intended this for poops and grins. It's not something I'm genuinely passionate about.

^ Sure! Personally I find the change between TMP and TWOK is too drastic and sudden to be believable. Something more evolutionary or gradual would be preferable, to me.

That's a great jumping off point, and what my thinking is, if they actually did have a transitional uniform, I would:
-Replace the insignias with ones like Kirk's bronzed badge, putting enameled division color in the areas of the circle that are outside the delta. This bridges toward the TWOK ones.
-Square the bottoms of the tunics, add some form of belt or a kind of elastic, like the TNG unis from Season 3 onwards.

The away team jackets were a lot like what we saw in the Cage IIRC.

I'd keep the TMP uniforms for ground installations, DS9 uniforms for stations, ST:TWOK uniforms for admirals, and later TNG uniforms for main ships.
